Google has no incentive to ever close the source on Android, because it generates a heck load of revenue from keylogging, tracking cookies and usage data of its users. But Google certainly can use the "free" price tag of Android as bargaining material against manufacturers.

It would be counterproductive for Google to make Android closed-source. They developed the Android mainly to stop Apple from getting into their business, search driven advertising. With the success of Android, they couldn't have hoped for better. Google's purchase of Motorola was to defend Android from patent lawsuits from Apple and not to make their own line of handsets with a closed-source Android. Either this sabotage from HP's new CEO or she doesn't really know what she's gotten into. Either way, the future looks grim for HP.

Meg Whitman is a moron. HP would grow if they fired all the Republican in the company.
