Can i upgrade my hp pavilion dv8315nr to an SSD?

It appears that your unit can accept a second drive, so I'm assuming you want the ssd for a boot drive, then use the original for storage, otherwise what's the point.
You would need to image your current drive onto the SSD, that would be the best solution.
You could use something like Acronis True Image to transfer it over, Acronis will allow you to put the drive image on a smaller drive, so long as the available space, is greater then the amount of used space on the drive being imaged.
