I can't shrink my Vista partition...

I'm trying to dual boot Vista 64bit with Ubuntu (linux) but I can't seem to shrink my Vista partition.

When I go to disk management It's not showing any unallocated space on my C drive, despite having around 270GB free...
Also, when I go to shrink the drive it's showing 0MB free space to shrink.

I just tried resizing the partition using GParted and it failed too. I can't seem to resize it!

When you right clicked the drive and chose shrink partition, did it go through the process of querying volume for available shrink space?

Yes, it did go through the querying process. I eventually tried using GParted and it said there was a problem with the file system and it couldn't be resized.

In the end I formatted the partition and it's all working fine now. I have no idea what caused it.
