I couldnt decide which driver

....so I benchmarked the 4.11's and 4.12's on my own machine(XP2100+/R9800) just because I had some time.

Utilizing the benchmark capabilities of FRAPS, I decided that I would try using ATi's Ruby demo(for it's extensive DX9 shader usage) and Doom 3(because it's OpenGL, and I still play it)

Driver control panel was set to application for AA/AF, mip detail set to quality, and AI turned off.

I ran each demo 3 times for warm up before I hit the benchmark button, and I am confident that things were equal.
Here are the average framerates...

Cat4.11: Ruby demo = 16.669 Doom 3 = 41.528

Cat4.12: Ruby demo = 16.607 Doom 3 = 42.135

.....so much for that :tongue:

I have now decided that benchmarking is too much work, and my time would have been better spent masturbating.

......and also, believe it or not, my card runs about a degree and a half hotter with the 4.12's, in comparison to the 4.11's( I have a Nexus temp monitor thingy on my card)

I noticed because Doom 3 was giving me pixel pops(white specs) with the 4.12's at the same clock speed as I run with the 4.11's......seriously....

I hope my monitor doesnt blow up.

Maybe they should have called it doom mark 2004, but i still enjoy it. Play a level here and there. Still makes me jump sometimes. I have seen in the forums that people are saying HL2 is a demo of the engine as well. I don't know myself I won't play it until the weekend.

I'm stuck in Norway for work until the weekend, so I can't pick it up until I get home. Even if I could find it over here, this work laptop scores about 170 points in 3dmark2001, so I don't think it's worth the effort.

Well as for 4.11 and 4.12 and as u r still stuck just with D3, go according to ur pref. Are u using any of the mods/tweaks for ATi and D3 ?

Terry (Catalyst Maker) said he personally prefers the 4.12b. Upto you to decide for urself or take his word on that.

I got the same glitches with the 4.12b driver with Doom 3, go figure.

There is something strange about this driver. I cant overclock as high(in Doom 3)

Really... My OC limit is the same with Doom 3. However the temps on the core went up a c or 2 for that maybe affecting your OC limit. How big of a drop did you take?

Instead of fudging around, I simply went down 10Mhz. Not a huge difference in famerates anyways
