OK,

I am in he process of upgrading the 'kid' machine. He is Freshman at college, likes his MP3s and his high speed video games (Red Alert 2 etc).. I want this to be a machine that will last him a couple of years, but have no idea as to what the newest toys are out here for this setup. I like the ATI Radeon 64DDR card for video, and I will probably drop some 40gb/7200 rpm drive in, but I need some basic info on motherboards these days and processors. Just for my own preference, I still like Inel Pentiums, but am open to other rock solid suggestions.. Anybody want to try and tackle this for me? I need brand name/model # for motherboard...

Asus CUSL2 and choose an FC-PGA processor to go with it.

AMD Thunderbird/Athlon processors are clearly the better value right now. The 900 MHz T-Bird it right around $190.

Stick with ASUS for all your mobo needs.

The GeForce2 GTS 32mb is a great video card. It's not the best, but still provides for reliable, fast performance.

Get an IBM hard drive. They are the fastest made right now.
