Hi all. I have never built a PC before but I have bought the following (as suggested for trading) and am going to put it together myself. I will use online vid’s as my guide and any useful ideas/ hints will be much appreciated.

My main question is what cooling fan would I need for the set up and are there any additional leads I will need that would not have come with the bits I’ve bought?

Intel Core i7-8700 4.60ghz
MSI B360M MORTAR
Ballistix Elite 8GB DDR4 2666MHz
Samsung 960 EVO 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD
NVidia Quadro P600
NZXT S340 Mid Tower Case
Antec VP-450 Power Supply LG 27UD68-P 27” Monitor

Any help will be much appreciated,
Charlie.

If you are not going to overclock you can go with an air cooler....which I'd recommend over liquid for your first build.

This cooler is really popular and reasonably priced and will work with an 1151 socket.

Although get whatever you want....just make sure it will fit in your case.

Here are a few actual good coolers to choose from.

Cheers for the info vMax. After lots of reading I’ve gone for a Corsair H60 as I’ll be at the pc for many hours in a day and I’ll be recording some music in the future and from what I gather about the H60 it might be a bit more quite (not be heard on recording) .... fingers crossed eh.

The H60 is a piece of junk, none of the 120mm AIO's are worth it... That's NONE.

The air cooler you picked is a lot better.

The Corsair H60 is not bad at all for your use case, in fact it will do more than a good job on your 8700 without any issues whatsoever and keep things running cool and quiet, especially as you have the non overclocking version of the 8700. In terms of leaking, forget it, very, very rare for them to fail and Corsair have improved massively over the years. I have owned Corsair AIO's from the very beginning around 2010/11 and have never, I repeat, never had one fail on me. I am currently using the Corsair H150i Pro.

Here is Guru3d's latest 2018 review on the H60...In terms of pure cooling power it more than holds its own. Check his detailed article that runs to 12 pages and his thermal tests...

https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/corsair-h60-review,1.html

I simple cannot understand why people have to exaggerate so much..If he had an overclocking capable CPU then yes a better cooler for sure but it is a 8700 non K and there is absolutely nothing wrong with 120 AIO's for stock cooling. Nothing wrong with Air coolers either and boy have I used them as well including the Noctua's...but to outright slate 120 AIO's is just wrong.

Hardly.

That cooler won't handle a 130w CPU, that is what they actually pull, both the 8700 and 8700K.

And 120mm AIO's are junk, even MOST of the budget Air coolers will beat them. And they cost about half of what those garbage AIO's do. They cool better and are quieter also in general.

And yes there is a good chance an AIO will leak, it happens a lot, especially with the cheap ones.

Well the OP can PM you when that crap AIO either leaks and or doesn't cool as well as you say it will.

Maybe you can kick him some cash for the bad advice. 😉

Or reimburse him for his system if it leaks.

I am the one who told him to send that POS back/cancel the order etc. 😉

There seems to always be those people who seem to take up for crap parts.

Nothing ever changes unfortunately when it comes to that.

And there are some people who just seem to have ego's the size of a planet with a me, me, me, stop everyone, its me, attitude.. Fits you like a glove...enjoy.

I suppose we can add the OP to the long list of people who tried to use 120mm AIO's with 8700's and are having issues.

That list is long and all over the internet on a lot of forums.

He should have stuck with the air cooler he picked out.

Jesus it went mad in here for a bit then. The cooler is bought now so I’ll just have to pray that it’s okay. I’m very new to all of this so I don’t know what to think.

My apologies it is in fact an 8700k but I
will not be over clocking it.

I did read that Guru3D review yes and that’s partially why I bought it.

Cheers for the input you two

Do yourself a favor and send it back.

The review is BS and has nothing to do with YOUR CPU, it takes a lot more power than that old CPU they used in the review.

The 8700K will overpower that 120MM AIO.

The 4790K hey used is OLD and 4 core, 8 thread.

The 8700K is 6 Core and 12 thread and can (Will pull over 130w)

Apologies landinglight for getting into a bit of a run in with the other chap..I can only give you my thoughts on your decision to get the H60 and have pointed out the many positive reviews and my experience on the Corsair AIO's. Its your choice in the end and a good air cooler or a good AIO will do more than a good job. Hope all goes well.

PS I live in London so if you need any help and your close, just PM me and I will be more than happy to help.
