Hi all. I have never built a PC before but I have bought the following (as suggested for trading) and am going to put it together myself. I will use online vid’s as my guide and any useful ideas/ hints will be much appreciated.

My main question is what cooling fan would I need for the set up and are there any additional leads I will need that would not have come with the bits I’ve bought?

Intel Core i7-8700 4.60ghz
MSI B360M MORTAR
Ballistix Elite 8GB DDR4 2666MHz
Samsung 960 EVO 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD
NVidia Quadro P600
NZXT S340 Mid Tower Case
Antec VP-450 Power Supply LG 27UD68-P 27” Monitor

Any help will be much appreciated,
Charlie.

Se what I mean.....It's all about him..No thought given just hit after hit after hit.

There is nothing wrong with the CPU choice, it's just severe overkill for what you are doing.

You could have saved a ton of money and went with a i3 or i5 and used the stock cooler.

Still would have lasted a VERY long time since you aren't really using it as a higher end PC.

Kinda like driving a Stock Car in heavy city traffic.

You have bought a great CPU that will last you a long, long time and providing great performance...If you could not really afford it, then it would have been a bad decision...no need to apologise.

He will never see the difference between the 8700K and an i3 8100 doing what he is doing with the PC.

That was my point.

Now if he wants to start gaming later on etc then yeah.

All said and done the H60 will be fine doing what he is doing with the PC as the CPU will never even get stressed at all. Will barely get used at all.

Booting up the PC will put more stress on the CPU than what it's being used for.

I am done.

Enjoy the PC. :)

I hear what ur saying and it is possible that again due to my inexperience I have read all the info on the net and bought into something that wasn’t real. My only solace is that I made the money for the new pc in a short time so it doesn't matter if it’s a bit wasted here and there. It’s put a smile on my face so it’s worth it- and I have lots of lovely shiney new boxes to open which is exciting... and I’ll learn lots from building it

Like I said there is nothing wrong with your choices.

If it makes you happy then all is good.

The H60 will handle it for what you are doing with it.

Later down the road if you want to start gaming or something change out the Cooler for a better one.

Enjoy the build and yes you will learn a lot...

Good man Jankerson very true. The only real ‘bad experience’ is one we don’t learn from and I’ve learnt allot in just a few days including today. I do thank the both of u as it has made me aware that if in the future I do push the pc I will look deeper into it’s cooling needs and act accordingly- so I thank you

With that build you can do just about anything, put in a nice Graphics card (Gaming Card), new cooler and PSU and you will be fine.

That's if you get into gaming. 😀

Okay so the H60 just came and I’m trying to locate it into the nzxt s340 elite tower but the h60 came with a fan and there are two ‘exhaust fans’ in the tower already. The manual says put the h60 on an intake but I only seem to have the two exhaust fans in the tower. Any ideas?

You remove the rear exhaust fan and place the H60 there exhausting out of the back of the case, and use the fan that you removed elsewhere in your case as additional airflow coming into the case possibly..I am sure Jankerson will jump in with some better suggestions.
