Good evening,

So in July I bought a new pc after working my butt off. The only problem is that it doens't work like intended. I think it's my GPU or motherboard that is broken but every piece of advice is welcome!
So my problem: I get low fps in most games and sometimes my screen blacks out, fans go 100% for like 5 seconds and then my fans go back to normal. The only thing I can do is hard reset my pc. After that I need to adjust my power cables from my GPU or push my GPU card better in the motherboard.

Here are my specs:
Motherboard: MSI PRO Z7980-P WIFI
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 RAM 32 GB 6400 MHz
CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K
SSD1: Samsung SSD 970 EVO plus 500 GB (for windows only)
SSD2: Samsung 990 PRO 4TB SSD (for all the rest)
Power supply: Corsair RM1000e
CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 360
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16G Ventus 3X OC

Thanks for helping!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Motherboard: MSI PRO Z7980-P WIFI
What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard? I would've picked upa higher pedigree board when you were deciding to pair it with an i9-14900K.

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 RAM 32 GB 6400 MHz
Are the populating slots A2 and B2 on your motherboard? Got a link to the ram kit in use?

SSD1: Samsung SSD 970 EVO plus 500 GB (for windows only)
Is this drive recycled from an older build?

You forgot to include the make and model of your case and how the AIO is mounted in said case. Speaking of AIO's, what sort of tempos do you see when the system blacks out when taxed? On that note, you state most games...what are the names of the games you've taxed the system with(without mentioning an etc in that sentence)?

After that I need to adjust my power cables from my GPU or push my GPU card better in the motherboard.
Is the connector for the GPU fully seated?

Hi, and thank you so much for your response!

Here’s an overview of my setup:

System Details:

Cooling and Temps:

  • My cooler is mounted on the top of the case, as I’ve heard this positioning is better for the pump.
  • My system temps are normal:
    • While gaming: ~60°C for both GPU and CPU
    • While watching YouTube videos: ~30°C (CPU) and ~40°C (GPU)
Games Played:

I play a variety of games, including:

Ready Or Not, Raft, EFT, FC 24, Truck Simulator, Rocket League, GTA V, Car for Sale, and Into the Flames. While some games are more intensive, I’ve noticed issues even with less-demanding ones like Raft and Rocket League.

I believe my connector is fully seated. I heard the click and saw the lock engage when plugging it in. I even gave it a little extra push to ensure it was secure.

Could you recommend a better motherboard? I’d really appreciate any advice or insights you can provide.

Thank you again for your help!
