Make, model, version motherboard?

Go to the motherboard's manufacturer's website and find the applicable User Guide/Manual for the motherboard.

The User Guide/Manual should provide a listing of supported RAM and RAM configurations.

The User Guide/Manual will likely also refer you to the website for more up-to-date information likely via the RAM QVL (Qualified Vendors List).

Check FAQs and Forums as well. Look for what is said as well as "what is not said".

Then cross check by going to the various RAM manufacturer websites and use the motherboard information to search for compatible RAM and RAM configurations.

Look for a consensus with respect to RAM modules and configurations.

Also remember that you will need a RAM kit with two matched RAM modules for dual channel use.

And hopefully maybe add even more RAM: 2 x 8GB modules for 16GB total as an example.
