It is possible to just transfer the old drives to the new system, especially the one that does not host the OS. For the OS drice (usually called C), it is recommended to reinstall Windows, but not 100% mandatory. My boyfriend got it to work just fine after upgrading to a new platform (MB, CPU, RAM). It mightfail for others. What I would recommend is, backup your OS-drive, for example on an external drive that is big enough to save all data. Uninstall drivers, then transition to the new system. Did it work? Great. Did it not? Reinstall the OS, install drivers, copy your data back, done. Keep in mind that you likely have to reinstall all programs in this case no matter what drive they were on, so I would save the installation files for those somewhere, too. If you want to be really, really sure nothing goes wrong, also backup data from the non-OS drive. But whatever you do, always. Backup. Data!
