I responded to a post
A gentlemen had a PB with a defective goldstar
CDROM
I spent about 32 Emails with him helping him
It was my suspicion that the CDROM was bad

I made him a diagnostic boot disk
It confirmed my hunch

He still wanted to get the CDROM working
Of course that weas impossible

In any case after using the diagnostic boiot disk
in another Computer he was able to realize the
the CDROM was bad

He originally purchased a replacemenet master
CD and it would not read
They sent him a 2nd one bevause of his concerns
He now has three

I also showed him how to use winimage in order
to determine if the original CD was bad
He thought it was
Winimage showed it was a good CD

He suspected that one file on the master CD was corrupt
It was not
But I worked with him and happen to have that
file(folder)

In any case
While I was looking for the folder he needed
I noticed that the Master CD in my collection
had a bad folder

Cycyclic redundancy error
I knew which one
It was fixable in any case

I asked him if he would like to sell me one of his Master
CD's
He has three now

He said he would trade for a HD in the 10 to 20 gig range
He then responded with another Email
asking me how to set up a HD

How should I respond
Thank You but I do not have a HD
Or stick it

He originally contacted me
He wanted to save the 2.99 per minute that
support was charging

Take the high road. Tell him that you saved him $2.99 a minute for YOUR trouble
and that he can send you a recovery CD gratis for your help. That's a fair
trade in my book. Of course, if he's an ingrate, he'll refuse your suggestion
and lose out getting any sort of help from any of us in the future.

And if he does not send your recovery CD for your help, be reconciled once again
that there are always the turkeys of this world who place no value on the TIME
someone spends to solve their problems. I have my short list of turkey
ex-clients around here. I just don't waste my time even speaking to them any

I sent a message very similar
Now the person wants to send me the CD free

I really do not have to have it in my collection
I set up a message rule to forward
back all emails and move to delete folder

She sort of apologized

After she realized the her new question remains open

The shame is
2.99 per minute got her no place
Never does with some of these sites so called techs
Cost her an additional 30 dollars for something she did not need

Received free help
That worked

Now maybe she will learn the meaning of sharing and being stingy
Nah
