I3 530 or i5 750

ohk i5 750 is 2.66 Ghz with boost
i3 530 is 2.93 Ghz without boost..

i5 is quad core without hyper threading
i3 is dual core with hyper threading

memory size remains same with 2 slots for each

my ques is that is it worth to extend the budget for i5 or i3 is nice??

my basic requirements lies in running mainly autodesk maya 2011 and photoshop cs5 extended simultaneously.. other softwares include autodesk 3ds max 2011 for now and after some time, z brush, after effects , premier apple final cut etc..

plus a little of gaming too..

If you are doing alot of 3d editing I would go with the 750 it has a larger L3 cache, 4 physical cores where the 530 has a smaller L3 cache, 2 cores and 4 threads. The 4 physical cores will perform better than the 2 physical cores and 4 threads. If you have the money it would probably benefit you to go with the i7 860 it has a clock speed of 2.8ghz, 4 physical cores and 8 threads. The more cores/threads you have the more programs you can run at the same time without taking a hit in performance. [:bohleyk:1]

If you can afford it, then just get the i5 750 (i5 760 if the prices are very close).. The i3 530 does not stands its ground in front of the it (even considering gaming as the sole purpose).. Its should be a no brainer when comparing between a dual core and a quad core (even considering the fact that i3 can virtually operate 4 threads with hyper-threading).. The future is already stated and dual cores are mostly a thing of the past..

price is a factor, but since i see you are into rendering, i think the i5 will be better for you

Yes, if you are debating between the two, definitely go with the i5. You won't be sorry.
