I5-7400 @ 3.00ghz or I5-6500 @3.20 ghz,,, price very very close to each other ,,,, just wanna give a little more kick for gaming with a used CPU, compared to my celeron @ 2.7

The 6xxx processor to a 7xxx were just a refresh nothing really changed that mattered. Intel likes doing that.

You will definitely get more kick, with the i5 6500, vs that celeron, but newer titles are still going to be difficult, with it only being a 4c/4t CPU. I would advise against sticking money into a dead end platform, unless said CPU is extremely cheap.

I personally prefer you to stick to newer gen intel cpus cause as the gen gets higher it consist more new tech stuff sticked to it

Intel hasn't really implemented much of anything this latest gen. It is still, at its base, a skylake 14nm chip, with more cores. It has been refreshed to the moon and back, but nothing really new has been added, since 7th gen adding optane. Intel has been struggling to get on a new process.
