i5 8400 / Z370 / 3000mhz ram?

I have recently purchased a Z370 motherboard along with an i5 8400 and an Adata XPG Z1 8gb 3000mhz ram module
Everything seems to be working flawlessly aside from the ram which is clocked at 2666mhz
From what I've found the board does support 3000mhz ram and I see no reason the CPU would throttle it
I have tried "overclocking" it to ~2860 and 3000 but both proved unstable
Have I made a mistake buying 3000mhz ram?

That's just the official speed Intel guarantees to work, you can still run RAM at higher speeds with a Z370 mobo. My 6700K only officially supports 2133 MHz DDR4, but I'm running 2800 no problem (and many people running much higher than that).

@Dave71 did you enable the XMP profile in the BIOS?

WOW that actually worked!
The profile was on "auto", switched it out to the other default (presumeably) and now it is indeed at 3000mhz
Oddly enough I have done that before and it caused the system to fail to boot but this time it works flawlessly

Thank you kindly, you've more than made my day
