I7 2600K, 1155 socket cpu cooling recommendations

I Have the following Equipment:
Can you recommend the best CPU Cooler (I don't like hydro cooling)
for my application???
Case: Mid tower ATX, Thermaltake V9 Black Edition, (VM400M1W2Z)
This case has 1 front fan, 1 rear fan, 1 topmount fan
Processor: Intel i7 2600K, 8M Cache, 3.4 GHz,
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe R3 LGA 1155 ATX Intel MotherB
Video C: EVGA, Super-Clocked 012-P3-1572-AR NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570

Can you help???

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

You only can fit a low profile cooler in that case, even, the Hyper 212+ is too big for that case with the side fan. What budget do you have? Katana 3 is a solid option, or H50 for save space.

Seriously- you can go to frostytech.com and read reviews of various coolers. I believe if you look up their actual in depth reviews of various coolers they will actually give the dimensions. You can measure the inside of your case and hopefully find something to fit. Fortunately the 2600k doesn't require as much cooling as previous generations of quad core CPU's.

The H70 is more expensive, very easy to install and performs better that H50. Since you have limited space inside the case, this could be a good option.

@ Saint19. His case has a front, rear, and large top mounted fan - No Side fan.

My case is 9" wide vs your V9 @ 8.5". I have a Zalman 9700A-led mounted.
With a 8.5" wide case - 1.5 inches (right side to top of cpu NOTE NEED TO verify) gives about 7 x 25.5 = 178.5 mm H. My guess is that the 212+ would fit 120 mm + distance from fins to base maybe 37 mm = 157 mm (my 9700 is 142 mm and the 9900 I got for my future I5-2500K is 152 mm H

As to H70, yes that is a good Cooler (I'm like you I prefer not to use Liquid cooled HS)

Unless going for a HIGH OC on the i7-2600k, the top 5 aircooled are probably close to the H50 and the H60 - If going liquid might as well go H70.

Note that the 9900max (not the best air HSF) with I5-750 @ 4.2 GHz vcore @1.5V temp was 63 C.
SBs run cooler than older CPUs.
** Note a plug for 9900 (I like) but there are better ones out there.

@RetiredChief: The V9 Black Edition comes with side fan from manufacturer, I know because I friend had one and I had one with side window, trust me, the Hyper 212+ will never fit in the V9 Black Edition with the side fan installed.

Saint19, I Believe you, that it will not fit with side fan installed. Also believe Some models have a side fan installed - Other models may have a side fan installed by user.
But the Model Identified (VM400M1W2Z) does not list a side fan in specs
Fan specs:
120mm Fans 1 x 120mm intake front Blue LED fan
1 x 120mm exhaust rear Turbo fan
230mm Fans 1 x 230mm exhaust top Silent fan

^Agree, so, we have a problem here. The users says that's the V9 Black Edition but the model is the Side Window model. If the side window model is the correct one, the cooler almost fit as show in the pictures below.

I was guessing on distance from right panel to top of cpu and the distance from the top of the cpu to the bottom of the fins - When I looked at dimentions for the 212+, it gave the fan size - but not total height.

In that case, the side window model the cooler fit barely, even, if you do some pressure in the right panel this can touch the cooler's top.

That Zalman fit without problems.

Saint19 indicated that the Hyper 212+ would JUST fit, the 9900 is about 8 mm shorter in hieght.

On price, not to long ago I thin Newegg had the 9900led on sale (think around $50, but not sure). I got the 9900max-B on sale @ newegg for $65 Currently $80. From what I read the Max are an improved version of the 9900 series. Fan 120mm -> 135 mm and base is Ni plated. For a small OC the 9900LED should be OK (looks pretter anyways LOL), But the 9900 max would only be $17 - your tax (has free shipping). Your call. I have the 9700 on my I5-750 and @ 3.8 GHz, while warm (about 65 C) it is fine and the 9900LED better than 9700.

Added, thanks to ps3hacker12 his chart shows that the 9900 beats the H50 and H60 and is only 1 1/4 C hotter than the H70.
The H70 would show a greater diff if going for MAXimium OC at elevated vcore, which your NOT.
