i have an i7 4790k, corsair h100i liquid cooler, and a msi z97 g45 gaming motherboard. just picked this setup up 2 days ago and everything was running awesome, all temps were fine no issues whatsoever. turned the pc on today and started gaming.. after a match i looked over to my second monitor and saw my cpu temps were in the 90s. immediately shut down the game and everything else. didnt know where to start so i went in to the bios and saw an option "intel turbo boost" it was enabled so i disabled it. booted back up and tried gaming. temps are now staying around 75c which is where they were the past two days. the cooler is running around 40c so its not the cooler. my buddies are saying i should be below 75c too. im wondering if its as simple as thermal paste? any suggestions would be really appreciated.

another update*** ran fine afetr the new thermal paste. after it sat for the night turned off, i went to go gaming again and was back up in the 80-90 range. so i just went out and bought the h100i pro 240mm and installed it, started it up ran a stress test and played some games... stayed under 50C.. thinking it may have been the water pump.

I also think its the thermal paste. i told my situation to a guy who has built many PCs for me and he thinks it could be a bad water pump. id like to add that now i have to turn the pump on the cooler up to 3000rpm to stay under 80C

so im staying under 80C now, i have to turn the cooler pump to "performance" mode instead of "quiet" mode through the corsair Link app, the pump runs at 3000 rpms opposed to 1500 rpms in quiet mode. 70-80 in my opinion is still hot.

Have you checked what the voltage is for the cpu? Also do you use the corsair link program? You can change the fan speed curves. I make mine aggressive. I set it like this 30c 30% 50c 50% 60c 60% then 70c 100% fan speed. Keeps my 4790k at 4.7ghz cooled to 70-72c while gaming. Also how aggressive do you cool your case? Try increasing the case fans speeds too. You have to remember the warmer your room the warmer your cpu.
