hey guys!
so i was wondering which cpu i shoud buy?
i have Gigabyte B360 HD3, GTX 1060 6Gb and 16 and 2x HyperX Fury DDR4 2400MHz CL15 8Gb
i'm an editor and work with AE and 3D softwares and alsoi do a lit bit gaming!
so which one i buy?! i7 7700K or i5 9400f?!
what's the difference?! i'd be glad if you explain completly why your choice is...
and another thing, why i7 got only 4 CORES ?! i mean so what's the deal of i7? I thought all of i7 got six cores or more!
thanks

There's 2 versions of lga1151.

1151v1 = 100/200 series motherboards. 6/7 Gen
1151v2 = 300 series motherboards. 8/9 Gen

Same socket, same number of pins, different pin links. Incompatible.

Any 300 series mobo built after the release of the 9th Gen cpus will already have bios compatibility for the 9th Gen, so whether that B360 is compatible depends on its manufacture date, Not the sales date.

For upgrade, 9700k is as good as it gets.

Gtx1070 is ok for most games 144Hz + @ 1080p, but not really for 1440p. For that you'd need a 1080ti class card unless you feel like playing at med-low details by default.

Core-i cpus since 2nd Gen upto 7th Gen didn't change. i3 = 2 core hyperthreaded = 4 threads. i5 = 4 cores non-hyperthreaded = 4...

They are pretty close in gaming.
You probably mean 4 cores,the i7 7700K has 4 cores and 8 threads.
Intel didnt need to change their core/thread number, since they were still on top back then, now that AMD is beating them, they decide to raise the core/thread count.
Your motherboard doesnt support i7 7700K,so 9400F is your only option.

Sorry i meant only 4 CORES
And why it's not compatible?! Unless both of them doesn't have LGA1151 sockets?!
Your motherboard has a 300 series chipset which only supports 8th & 9th generation. For a 7th generation you need 100 or 200 series. Just look at the cpu support list for your motherboard, the 7700k won’t be on it. There is more than just the socket for them to be compatible.

Can i ask why my motherboard doesn't support i7700K?! And how should i find which cpu my main can support?!

If the motherboard says it doesnt support a certain cpu then there is no way that cpu would work in that motherboard.
Your gigabyte board supports 8th and 9th gen of intels processors,i7 7700K is 7th generation.
As you can see here.
Oh yeah,it doesnt support 9400F either,it supports i5 9400,the one with integrated graphics.

Aha! so when a main supports for example 10th generation it doesn't mean that it can support lower generation?! It can only supports the generation that is mentioned on the box?!

Are you completely sure it doesn't support core i5 9400f too?! I'm using Core i3 9100f right now

Your motherboard doesnt support intel processors with F suffix at the end of them.
For example:
i7 9700F
i3-9100F
i5-9400F
Long story short:
Intel CPUs with suffix F ( example: 9400F,9100F,9700F ) dont have integrated graphics and cant be overclocked. Ussually the cheapest option for a intel cpu
Intel CPUs with suffix K ( example: i7 8700K,i7 9700K,i9 9900K ) can be overclocked and have integrated graphics. The most expensive intel cpu's
Intel CPUs with both KF ( example: i7 8700KF,i7 9700KF,i9 9900KF ) can be overclocked but DONT have integrated graphics. Cheaper than K cpu's
Intel CPUs without any suffix (example: i7 8700, i7 9700, i9 9900) cant be overclocked but HAVE integrated graphics. A bit more expensive than F versions of cpu's
You motherboard says that it doesnt support F processors (N/A means it doesnt support it) as on the list here.

Intel cpu's without any suffix are probably the best option for a normal user,30-40$ more expensive than F version (depending on the CPU of course) but honestly you never know when you are going to need integrated graphics, especially whne trouble shooting.

Core-i cpus since 2nd Gen upto 7th Gen didn't change. i3 = 2 core hyperthreaded = 4 threads. i5 = 4 cores non-hyperthreaded = 4 threads. I7 = 4 cores hyperthreaded = 8 threads.

Hyperthreading is bandwidth sharing, so a hyperthreaded core shares its bandwidth with possibly 2 threads simultaneously. If a thread takes up a certain percentage, and the simultaneous thread also takes up a certain % and the total is more than 100%, one thread gets to wait for the first to clear. This makes a core stronger than a thread. An i3 for example is 2 cores, so may only possibly work on 2 threads at any given time, out of its possible 4 threads, whereas the i5 is 4 full cores constantly.

A 9700k is 8 cores, non-hyperthreaded, somewhat stronger than a 6700k or 7700k that's 4 cores but 8 thread hyperthreaded.

8th Gen saw the move to a 6 core i5, 6/12 i7.
9th Gen saw the move to i9 8/16 but continues the 6 core i5.

7700k Can be stronger than 9400, or can see lower fps, that's entirely on the game, optimization, thread usage, IPC use.
