I just installed a hyper 212+, and it's running like a dream, but now I'm trying to overclock it. I can't raise the multiplier over 21 and when I increase my base clock the bios automatically raises the vcore, so when I put it at ~170 it auto raises the vcore to 1.5v. Running prime95 froze my computer when I did that. When its ~160 it's forced to 1.4. I disabled turbo boost.

I don't know how to stop it from auto raising the vcore. That and I also don't know how to manually alter my vcore. I can't find any option in my bios.

a lot of things cant be altered... the arrow keys just skip right over it.

cpu voltage isn't vcore, because it says the highest it will let me set it is under 0.4v.. so i didn't mess with it.

What do I need to have disabled to OC and what do I need to do?

well i've figured out the cpu core problem. the number in the bios is for how much it is increasing it not how much it is total. the base is 1.21, so if i put it at 0.1 it brings it to 1.31.

anyways right now i have it at a total of 1.4v and it clocked at 3.8 and my computer completely freezes running prime95. no bsod.. i have to physically flip to power switch on the psu to turn it off. i've tried it at 4.0 3.8 and 3.6 and they all freeze my computer completely. temps are running fine. about 65-70 while prime95 is running before it freezes. i haven't messed with the vtt or the pch.. they are set at "auto"

i've disabled c1e eist, spread spectrum and virtualization in bios.

do i need to tweak my ram, my vtt, or what? the temps are running fine its just really unstable. i think that the auto settings for voltage on my parts is really bad so i'm probably going to have to set them myself, but i don't really know what to set them to to stop the freezing.

I can't seem to get my cpu to stabalize. the temps are fine pretty much no matter what I do (even at 3.8 ghz or up to 4ghz) but my computer is freezing after about 20 minutes of prime95

I had it at 3.2 ghz with a baseclock of 155 and a multiplier of 21.

memory is ddr3 double channel

timings are 9-9-9-24 with a memory ratio of 5 and dram frequency of 1550. dram voltage is 1.651

pch voltage is 1.1

vtt voltage is 1.345

vcore is at 1.4

qpi ratio is 16 with a qpi frequency of 4960

disabled spread spectrum, c1e, eist and all the virtualization things (intel virtualization tech, intel vt-d tech) and c-state disabled.

i would like to think that my cpu is capable of an overclock but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

looks like this is just turning into a journal of my progress which is fine, but input would be nice.

lowering the voltage and turning off cpu phase control has allowed me to run prime95 at 4ghz. it hasnt crashed yet but two of my cores are running way hotter than the others.

core 1 is at is at 55 degrees core 2 is at 79 core 3 is at 50 and core 4 is at 80.

thread 4 and 5 in prime95 are giving fatal errors but all of the other cores are running just fine.

primes been running for about an hour now.

its starting to sound like i'm going to have to re-set my heatsink.

though none of the cores have gone over 85 at this point, which i've read is what you need to keep it under.

edit 1: i'm actually thinking the other 2 cores werent running hot because the threads failed and i didn't reset them. i didn't know you would have to start prime again after a thread failed., i though it would reset on its own.

edit 2: I now have the vcore at 1.25 and the cpu oc'ed to 3.7 and ran small fft for an hour and everything was fine and switched over to blend. been running 15 minutes so far and everything is running great. temps between 69 and 75 on all cores. gunna mem test this in the morning after running blend all night and hopefully I'll have a stable overclock base that i can build up from.

Hi Risho

As a Toms community member, I apologise these were your only posts and that they went unanswered for 5 years!

Your posts are proving invaluable in assisting me with an overclock (for fun) of an i7 870 on the exact same board.
