hey all,

(i7 4790k @ 4.3 autoclocked by my msi motherboard, bios default settings)

I asked it at the beginning if my temps where to high. I have a core temp of max 61 dergrees after playing titanfall on ultra for about two and a half hours. When i play metro redux, it stays after an hour on 62 degrees.
My package temp is 61 degrees.
I'm really worried about my temps being to high. Does anybody know if these are safe temps or not?

I have a 212 evo cooler on it.

thanks

Solution
Not at all... you are doing very well with those temps... I went through what your going through and you have nothing to worry about at those temps... under 70 degrees is good all day long.

People, I know what the culprit was for the higher idle temps besides my ambient temps. I chagned my performance plan to balanced and now i have no problems whatsoever.

Idle temps are now 23-29 degrees :)

Hmm so... can you guys help me? :/

I got the 4790k at 4.4ghz stock XMP 1 with my Asus Z97 Pro

I am ambient 38C, but in BF4, I can get up to 70C : (

I also just decoded a video in Handbrake... package got to 75C in the matter of 3 minutes...

Why is my Hyper 212 evo doing so bad? I'm even usig MX-2 Thermal Paste.
Here's my case with PLENTY of fans...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/k9lpucr3ayk7bgh/2014-06-29%2023.14.34.jpg?dl=0
3 120's in the front intaking, 2 140's out the top exhausting, 1 120 in the back exhausting, and 2 120's in push pull on the cooler itself....
STILL 70C...
hmm... What can I do? I want it as cool as his, and mine should be cooler with 9 flipping case fans...

talking about core or package temp?

Package temp 76C, Core temp still like 75C...
What thermal paste did you use?
How many other fans do you have?
I only used a pea size amount of thermal paste, so there shouldn't too much on it.

Also... should I be able to turn my cooler to the left... its mounted but it will rotated if I twist it counter-clockwise...
Does yours do that? Could mine be mounted wrong? It seems to have good contact but... hmm. Also, my heatsink itself is hardly ever hot... even under full load its quite cold to the touch.

You can try that or check if the cooler is mounted correctly. Maybe changing some settings in the bios? are the power safe options enabled?

Yeah :/ its Asus so its all stock XMP profile #1

All power options are on but all cores are also synced so its a tad hotter... but shouldn't be 15C hotter than yours...
I got 9 case fans :/

What voltage is your CPU at? mine is at 1.216v. that could be a huge factor
Not just what your Bios tells you, I mean the voltage your PC actually goes up to while gaming, you should have some program that will show it live. Even CPU-Z shows it

Ok so after looking at things in a bit more detail for me to get the temps of the i7-4790k to run at mid 20's idle and mid 60's in prime95 at 4.4ghz, 4.5 or (4.7GHZ temps reach 80 degrees) without touching voltage fully stable, (screen cap below) I have to run the following settings in bios on Maximus Hero vii (should work on other asus boards).

Everything in auto except the following:

AI - Manual
BLK - 100.0 sure you could push this ever so slightly
Multi-core Enhancement - Disabled
CPU Core Ratio - Sync All Cores
44 i have set to 44 but have tested at 45 no problems (4.5ghz)
EPU Saving mode disabled
CPU level up - 4.00g
Extreme Tweaking disabled
Memory at stated speed... i.e mine is at 1600 (i have 32gb installed) set yours to whatever it is.

The above should make your cpu run full at 4.4ghz with no heat penalty and 4.5 as well... again being a noob i have no idea why. If i touch xmp it seems to set the temps high or could be mce or even epu mode not sure at all but the above will definatly keep things running cool and you can overclock at cool temps but will have to play with vcore to go above 4.6...

Again please be aware i am new at this but the above works for me and keeps temps very low mid 20's idle and no more than 63 degrees in prime95.

Screenprint 4.6ghz

I am in performance mode at temps still mid 20's and max 63-64 in Prime95. Must be something in bios

i ran prime95 and i also have temps ~62 degrees max after about 20 minutes. Idel is now lowest 25 degrees and when gaming (titanlfaal ultra ~2 hours) my temps dont go above 61 degrees.

I also think the package temp cannot be trusted because it is exactly the same as my core0 temp

I think you are right on that... but great temps for you...
Also got it to 4.6 stable without vcore increase but 4.7 bsod... need more volts but to afraid as i am to new to this will read more before trying to play to much with vcore
