Icons delay in Network Places?

Hi there:

In WinXP (probably the same with other OS), would anybody please provide me help or a link to an article or an explanation of the delay with opening of the computers’ icons in My Network Places?
You know that, when a network supposed to be established, but the icons come up some minutes later.
(Is it an issue with 10Base vs. 100Base-T, or what ?

Also when a network is disconnected, but the icons are still there for a bit … (is it a Windows special feature? Or what else could be?).
