I just finished building a new desktop running WinXP Pro and wish to use it as the gateway to the internet for my laptop running WinXP. After some fussing I have the network runing so that I can transfer files between the PC's, but whenever I launch Internet Explorer (IE6) from the laptop it tried to fireup the laptops copy of MSN and call out over its own modem rather than going through the desktop that's alrady on the internet.

During the setup of the network using the WinXP wizzard on the Desktop I specified it to be the internet host and since MSN is my dialup ISP I have MSN as the internet connection. When I ran the wizzard on the laptop I specifed it to use the other PC (desktop) for internet access.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

You can check and see under IE > Tools > Internet Options > Connections, that it is not setup to run off the modem. Make sure that every thing is unchecked under the connnections tab. Hopefully that is what is causing your problems. Try playing around with the setting in there. Everything should work the way you have it setup.
