ICS reverse dns

I've got ICS setup, but its not working properly - basically it seems that I
can't get reverse dns from the win2k client on the lan (ICS server is win2k
too). I try pinging or nslookup and it timesout or cannot find the dns
server (can't try pinging using an external ip address at the moment - not
with the machine). The gateway on the client is the ICS server. The
preferred dns server records on the client I've tried as the 192.168.0.1
address of the server, as well as the dns records of the isp. I've set it
also to obtain the records automatically and ipconfig shows the dns to be
pointing towards the gateway / ICS server / 192.168.0.1 address, but it
still doesn't work!

Any clues?

Hello,

Thanks for posting!

I understand that the ICS setup does not work properly in the Windows 2000
networking environment. Please correct me if I am off base.

Based on your description, please help me know the topology of the network.
That is to say, workgroup or domain environment?¡¡Do you have DNS or DHCP
server in the network? Please note we do not run the ICS service on a DHCP
or DDNS server as the Q250603 indicates.

I would like to suggest you strictly follow the steps mentioned in Q307311
to configure the ICS Host Computer and Client Computer.

307311 How To Set Up Internet Connection Sharing in Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=307311

In addition, if the issue still persists, please check if there are any
error in the Event log. Please send the MPS_network report over e_mail to
me.

Download the MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE from the following link and then run this
tool to gather some information from the problematic computer:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE

To run this tool:

1. Double-click on the MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE file.

I understand this process may take some time, however it will not have a
negative effect on the performance.

2. A CAB file will be generated in the
%systemroot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab directory called
%COMPUTERNAME%_MPSReports.CAB. The CAB file will contain the reports
generated by the MPS Reporting Tool.

3. Send the CAB file as an attachment to v-jasont@microsoft.com

Thanks for the advice and suggestions - I'll go through the strict steps
outlined in the KB article: Q307311 and get back to you if it still doesn't
work.

Cheers.

All right!
here let me suggest you check with http://www.whoisxy.com/ where you will get DNS record for your server by simply putting IP or domain name. It is absolutely free service.
