I have a problem with a computer (win 98) that dials up the
internet fine froma DUN icon in dial up networking and connects yet
when i use IE or OE it hangs at the veryfying usenrame and password
stage. It basically repeats the line veryfying username and password and
does nothing. Is IE corrupt? can anyone suggets anything ive tried a
re-install of IE but to no avail.

If you haven't already, try connecting from another computer using
the same username and password to make sure that they are OK.
And in DUN properties for your connection, make sure that "Log
on to network" is not checked (unless you are one of the few who
need it). Then call your ISP to see if they have any suggestions.

Perhaps OE & IE are using different Internet connections. How many DUN
connectoids do you have? Look in Control Panel -> Internet Options ->
Connections -> DialUp & VPN Settings.
