If no conroe, what is best AMD setup?

If I cant get conroe before end of August what would be the best option for an AMD setup?

I really want to wait til conroe to mature before getting it.

There are 2 setup that I came up with.

One is AMD and one is Intel.
I might do both AMD and Intel setup if time and money permits me.

AMD Setup
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000
Mobo: ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe
Ram: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB)
GPU: 2 x XFX PV-T73G-UDD3 Geforce 7600GT 256MB
PSU: HIPER 580
Case: Thermaltake Armor Jr Silver

Intel Setup
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Mobo: ASUS P5W DH DELUXE
GPU: I guess ill get 7600GT also
Ram: N/A
PSU: N/A
Case: Lian-Li PC-60

Any recommendation for the RAM?

I'm trying to limit it to $1200 for both set-up.

Both systems would perform roughly the same although the E6600 is faster than the X2 5000+. If you can wait for the Conroe it will be better, if not the 5000+ will still be a speedy chip.

Don't SLI 7600GTs. If you must have nvidia, go for 7900GT. Instead, consider 1900XT.

This is a decent case. I have the black version and like it. It's a bit flimsy but I don't lug mine around.

I recently picked up a 60B Plus and like it alot. Nice quality, excellent features. Nice clean look.

Any recommendation for the RAM?

I like mushkin and OCZ because of good results and nice people.

Do not get a 5000+ CPU. Due to the way AMD's works the memory controller, DDR2-800 is underclocked to 733 on any CPU whose chip speed is not divisable to 400. Get the 4800+ instead.

Look at this graph it shows the various memory speeds for the X2 CPus in AM2:

Good choice on RAM for the AM2 system. AMD's CPU loves low timings. PSU is ok too, motherboard choice is not needed. Like another poster said, 7600GT in SLI is a horrible waste of money. Look at the M2N-E motherboard and a 1900XT or 7950.

Hmm theres not price change for the 4800 yet.

I might just not SLI still have sometime to decide lolz.
so what would be ta good brand for a 7900gt or x1900 ?

x1900xt from either Ati, sapphire, or HIS. the 7900GT from evGa, MSI, or xfx or blisstech. I'd go with the x1900xt though.
