If you could only have 1 case fan, where would you put it?

Would you have it as intake or exhaust and why?

Personally, I would put it as an intake in the front, but was curious to see what other people think.

exhaust, because only having suction, (or suction greater than that of the PSU) create positive air pressure in the case, this just builds up hot air.

with exhaust fan it suck the air out and draws new air in much more efficiently.

if this is a real situation, then get 2 fan and put one intake and another exhaust.

many cases only have one case fan (excluding PSU) and it is almost always a exhaust fan.

Buzz wrong call!! Where is all that cool air going to go? It will simply raise the air pressure in the case and create back pressure against the fan.

My flatmates PC has 2 rather inadequate 80 mm fans for exhausting hot air by the CPU heatsink. The CPU temperature is totally dependant on these 2 exhaust fans. I can turn of all the other fans in the case and it makes little difference to the CPU temperature... If I lower the speed on the top 80mm exhaust fan too much the CPU heatsink becomes hot enough to burn your fingers (an old Barton Athlon XP BTW  )!! :hot:

I'm with the others - definitely use it as an exhaust fan where it can pull out heat from the cpu. In fact, that's the way pc's were configured back in the good old days. Cases had only one small exhaust fan at the top rear of the case and we poured through pc magazines and catalogs looking for cases with perforated sides for improved air flow.

Actually, I didn't think about this....he probably only has one spot for a fan but wants to know what direction to put it.

i would start drilling holes.

Haha, funny you mention that. I tore up an old dell computer that way. There was no ventilation what so ever so I drilled a ton of holes in the side and screwed a fan in there to blow on my video card.
