[citation][nom]chaohsiangchen[/nom]It is surprising that certain authors of Tom's Hardware are so incompetent that they feel the need to keep pushing outright lies and promoting BS. Yes, that includes you, Tuan. Given your track record of false reporting, retraction and debunking yourself, you deserve to be fired already. Same with some other authors who do not do their fact check and keep posting unrelated topics. Not to mention the recent surge of misinformation and titular editing to attract hit rate. Now you are blaming us the readers for being unreasonable? Welcome to the real world, where unreasonable readers live. You'd better treat them well since they are the source of Tom's revenue. The only two reason that I still read Tom's are to bash narcissistic authors and any Apple Inc product respectively, just for fun. And keep doing this until all chronic readers are so pissed that they start boycotting without notification.[/citation]

Tuan Nguyen isn't that bad Toms Hardware has hired a lot worse them him over the years, Theo Valich comes to mind.

Very well said. I tend to post against Apple, but I have no hatred of them....just their marketing and business strategy. They constantly run commercials about how great their products are, but the only way to actually test them out (at least in my area) is to pay the insanely high price for them. In their commercials, they talk about how stable and secure OSX is....but there's absolutely no proof. I don't consider an OS "stable" if it supports a very limited number of hardware configurations....I consider it "stable" if I can't make it crash on a configuration of my choosing. Apple could fix my only real gripe with them, but giving some consumers what we want...an "IBM/Compatible" version of OSX. If MS released a version of Windows that blocked Apple users from being able to run it...MS would be facing anti-trust suits from the US-DOJ and Apple. I don't dislike Apple in any way....just the fact that they make claims that they refuse to actually prove. Apple computers are no different from "IBM/Compatibles"...just a bit more expensive than a comparable "IBM/Compatible" and are permitted to run OSX. If Apple ever releases a truly affordable laptop, I'll bite. I love tech competition....AMD/Intel, ATI/nV, PC/Apple....if it wasn't for competition, most of the world wouldn't own a computer at all. If you have a problem with competition in the tech industry, then your posts are simply a waste of everyone's time. Personal preference is all fine and dandy....but going to the extent of insulting a company or it's products doesn't benefit anyone in any way. I've limited my responses to most articles because "fanboy'ism" runs rampant.....I'm even starting to believe that it should be declared a mental disorder. I think Tuan Nguyen should have posted this sooner, and several times over the years

[citation][nom]JWL3[/nom]I don't hate Apple. I just don't like liberals. And most of Apple's users are liberals.[/citation]

Rush Limbaugh uses iMac. Don't believe me? Search his videos on YouTube. The guy who started HowTheWorldWorks also uses MacBook.

Apple is better simple as that. Try finding a PC with a magsafe charger or the most advance os in the world. Oh wait, you can't.

Apple's prices don't affect you if you don't want to buy an Apple product anyway. Period.

I think that's a convoluted thing to say.

If someone is attracted to Apple products for whatever reason, but then can't afford to make a purchase, it doesn't mean Apple's pricing doesn't affect that person.

People may find it easy to use Apple's market positioning as a surrogate to the price argument to avoid questioning their buying power. Logically, this attitude would extend to all premium products, but it doesn't!

A lot of people can't afford a Mercedes-Benz, but you don't see people going around trash talking the brand.

I think apple bashing comments are fine... with due evidence and explanation.

Example of bad comments:
-Apple sucks and OS X can suck my _____(insert random body part here)
-Poster X is a stupid #$%@! How dumb do you have to be to like apple?

Example of good comments:
-Apple is terrible because everything is proprietary, I'm allergic to brush metal, and the programs I need don't run on it!
-Poster X, you claim that apple is better because of ____ but I have to call bull crap on that because I don't think you have consider ____ (insert amazing counterpoint here)

Just point your blame at the right place (hint: not specific users or authors) and give reason for your hate. Then flame away the right way

LOL!!! isn't Apple basically stating that PCs are garbage and suck in their comercials (maybe just other words but its the same thing). Whats the difference??? Tell Apple to stop the hate lol

Very well written, and very true. Macs are technology, and technology is why we read Tom's Hardware.

I wouldn't be caught dead with a Mac, but I am greatfull they forced other PC makers to finally pay attention to aesthetics. They do get an importunate amount of press from media outlets, but that only forces its competition to react.

Would Dell (a company I personally dislike on the same level as Apple, but for other reasons) make the Adamo today if the Macbook Air didn't get so much media attention?

I think the thing that Tom's needs to remember here before getting defensive with your audience is the audience itself. The majority of the people who come to this website are Modders/techs/gamers/OCers, all of which the majority fall into the category of home built systems and don't buy their systems from dell(alienware),hp, atc.

Their operating system can only be used on their hardware, you are very limited on hardware choices, and not all software is compatible with Macs. All of these ideas are not mention in this "rant" and these are actually the biggest problems people have with Apple. At least that's my position.

I would have a mac machine but I can't afford it, would be great if I could buy the os and put it on my old home built pc but I can't.

Tuan - I agree with your comments. Opinions should be based on evidence and not just personal opinion. That is why we have blinded, placebo-controlled trials in Medicine in order to stay objective and avoid bias.

I must say, however, that Marcus' news stories have not been objective. The titles do not represent the content, and the conclusions reached do not reflect the data. The remainder of Tom's Hardware's reviews and news are much more objective overall.

If you're not looking to buy an Apple product...then their pricing doesn't affect you. Does it really matter if a MacBook is $1500, if you're looking to buy an HP laptop that's $800? If the MacBook being $1500 has an honest affect on purchasing the HP laptop you plan on buying, then you obviously didn't want the HP laptop to begin with. Product pricing only affects you, if you're genuinely interested in purchasing the product...unless there's a pricing war, which doesn't occur between Apple and "PC OEMs".

In my case, I require a laptop with Windows installed due to software I have to use. That software is only compatible with Windows, and the company that wrote the software has stated that they don't intend to support MacOS at any time. Also, the company I ultimately work for, has a deal with Dell that gives us a rather generous discount on otherwise rather expensive laptop models.

Wasting your time Tuan. The anti-Apple comments on this site are ridiculously overwhelming. As an owner of Apple products and Windows products it's almost unbearable to come to this site for any non-Windows news because of the comments section. Most of the time on Apple related articles I just skip the comments altogether to miss out on the stupidity that is the Windows fanboys on this site. This is toms hardware.com not toms hardware windows pc only apple go away.com

And while we are here Tuan, the amount of errors in every day tom's articles has been steadily rising for the past year or so. It really is quite sad when I can copy/paste a tom's article into Microsoft Word and the blatant errors are found and corrected automatically. It isn't too much to ask to have error-free articles. It has gotten to the point where I am 100% positive some writers do not proof-read their articles AT ALL before they are submitted to the site. Simply reading articles out loud and having a single peer quickly read and revise them would eliminate 90% of errors. A tech web site loses a lot of credibility when two out of every three articles is chock full of errors.

I suggest that the TH team, who claim they are 'all technology enthusiasts' buy a better camera to take shots of themselves.

[citation][nom]troger555[/nom]thumbs down. Someone is taking it too seriously. I get a laugh out of reading the comments on both sides. Thats the reason I read the posts is to get a laugh on how ignorant some sound and how knowledgeable others sounds.[/citation]

I get a laugh out of it sometimes too, but it doesn't make it acceptable. After thousands of anti-apple comments I would get pretty annoyed too. Apple is here to stay. If you don't like them don't buy from them. I like iPods, but I find that other mp3 players are a better deal. Every person has their own opinions, but you have to respect the opinions of other people too.

I gave up on windows when XP first came out before SP1 when it just sucked. I switched to linux because macs were lame and used gentoo for 6 years. During that time I played with macs and changed my mind. So I bought a mac when they went intel. I have used vista and XP w/sp3 since then at work but since 2001 I have not used a windows anything on any pc I have at home.
I don’t think there is an apple tax especially when you compare a top of the line dell or Lenovo to a macbook pro. I don’t game and I can do everything I need to do with my mac. When apple stops supporting the hardware I will just wipe the drive and run gentoo again. MS ain’t got nothing for me.

[citation][nom]bige420[/nom]Mac sucks...[/citation]

You completely missed the point of this article...

I don't particularly like Apple as a company, but some of their products are innovative.

The personal attacks against those who do like Apple, and particularly those attacks against Tom's Hardware & staff for posting TECH NEWS are rather unsettling and do need to stop.

Sincerely, a Microsoft "fanboy"

and no spelling errors [:mousemonkey:3] So thats who writes the articles! (guessing thats the team) Thanks for keeping me entertained at work!

How do you know that the majority of people who come to this website don't use macs? I know of Mac users who visit this site frequently but they don't comment on articles or write in the forums because of the aggressiveness by the PC base on here.

I'm pretty sure that Toms' have a pretty good idea as to what OS their visitors use, they'll have to keep an eye on the browser info for their advertising. I'd guess that there are more Mac readers on here than you'd think. A lot of mac users are incredibly interested in technology and as such frequent technology websites. There's a good reason why the likes of Engadget have a lot of Mac coverage too and attend all the Apple conferences.

Thank you THF! I am a loyal Windows user, but don't hate Apple by any means. BTW, this is true in politics, religion, etc. as well. People let their emotions and prejudices take over and start attacking people instead of their arguments or the facts. Glad to know that THF still stands for reason and sanity.

My problem with Apple is that they can't seem to make up their mind whether they are a PC or not. On the one hand, in their commercials they claim to be a MAC not a PC, and on the other, when it comes to using their OS on some other hardware, they claim to be a small fish in the "PC" market and sue and squash any possible competition in their "MAC" market.

What are they Macs of PCs? Make up your mind Apple.

Its back to the 80s in that shiny new time machine for me. As for Apple I can care less, they have a few good products that are priced ok but they just don't have that charm except for a few things but that is me. If you hate the tax throw it in the Boston harbor.
