I'm a newbie with an older Lenovo Ideapad. I may be asking this in the wrong place. If so, please excuse my error.
My cursor locks up, disappears, flashes and just generally fails to cooperate. If I put the unit on standby, wait until the power button begins pulsing and then restart it will work for a little while. I've tried several mouse. Both wireless and usb connected and the problem persists. I have watched several vids and they all provide basically the same suggestions but none have solved the issue. Please advise.

Try the mouse on another known working (no problems) computer.

Try another known working mouse (no problems) on your computer.

Determine if the problem follows the mouse or stays with your computer.

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Make and model mouse?

Manually download the mouse drivers directly from the manufacturer's website.

Reinstall and reconfigure.

No third party tools or installers.

I've tried four different mice, all which work on the wife's comp. Deleted the driver and suddenly nothing worked, even the keyboard. I had to restart and then reinstalled Windows, keeping my files, and the problem is still present.
Now, I'm reinstalling windows, again, this time from the web rather than from my device.

If multiple mice fail on the Lenovo IdeaPad then then the next step is to focus on what may be happening on the IdeaPad.

After Windows is reinstalled immediately look in Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.

Check both tools but only one tool at a time.

Reliability History/Monitor is user friendly and the timeline format can reveal patterns.

Event Viewer requires more time and effort to navigate and understand.

FYI:

How To - How to use Windows 10 Event Viewer | Tom's Hardware Forum (tomshardware.com)

After the initial check then continue working etc. as normal.

As soon as problems appear stop immediately and look for new entries in the tool logs.

If the system is frozen, locked, etc. then restart and when all is running check the tools as soon as possible.

It may take a bit of trial and error to be able to go back and forth into to logs and monitor for errors.

What you are looking for are any errors, warnings, or even informational events being logged just before or at the time of the problems being experienced.

Check details when available. The details may or may not be helpful. Make note of error codes.
