I have been out of the video market for quite sometime, but would like to upgrade. Right now I have an ASUS V9520 128MB and it provides a very good display on my Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u. However I work with alot of Photo editing software (Photshop CS, Nikon Capture) and would like to find out what graphics card would be optimal for this software. I am not concerned with its 3D ability, but primarily interested in colors, contrast, clarity and any other 2D features. I know Matrox was the leader at one time but things seem to have changed. I have been looking at the ATI Fire GL cards and would like to get recommendations (AGP) from all of the experts in what card would offer all the above.

thanks for your recommendations,
Allan

I'd recommend the Sapphire X800GTO with 12 pipelines. I think its selling around $170 on Newegg.

However - if you plan on keeping your system for longer, I suggest a new motherboard and PCIe graphics card (the price may end up about the same or slightly more).

x800gto is a scary card to buy, read alot of reviews, not to mention friens who have purchased this card. Yea its a cheap performable card, but it has internal clock issues with the new catalyst drivers.

To be honest, your money would be best spent upgrading your processor in this situation.

I'm not having a performance issue, I am looking for a video card where I will be able to get the best picture display. Right now my ASUS card is very good, but I thought workstation graphics cards were more or less the top of the line in terms of the colors they display, their clarity, the crispness of images, high resolution, etc. This is what I'm looking for. At one time I had a Matrox Millenium card, but after reading alot of reviews it looks like ATI has surpassed them in this area, or am I wrong? If so, this is what I'm trying to find out.

thanks again
Allan
