When I attempt to import an mpeg file created using Sonic MyDVD/RecordNow
into Windows Movie Maker 2, I receive this error message:

The file...cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is
not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and
install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to
import the file again.

I did that, and still received the same error.

I have the following on/with my computer (Windows XP Pro):

Windows Media Player for XP
Sonic MyDVD Version 5.3
Sonic RecordNow Version 7
Adaptec VideoOh! DVD (AVC-2200)

The video was captured from a VCR to RecordNow and saved as a mpeg file.

I tried importing an mpeg created in a different program and received this
message:

....could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events
from

Is this a codec issue?

Furthermore, I tried to capture the video directly in Windows Movie Maker,
and this popped up:

"Unknown Error"

Yes, that's exactly what it said.

I have been using this combination with DV format files and the Best Record
setting in MyDVD 5.3 without any problems. DV or .AVI files hog memory but
are best for editing in Movie Maker. Export Edited Movie as DV.AVI and Sonic
will convert to Mpeg2 only once so there are less artifacts of double
conversion. It is also easier to edit DV because every frame has different
information. In Mpeg some frames only have some parts of the frame which
makes it harder to see the right frame to edit on. Remember MyDVD always
re-encodes even compatable Mpeg files if you use the built in editor ( even
if you do not make any changes ) I have also found it better to use MyDVD to
capture to DV format (less ticks) then edit in MMC and export to DV/AVI and
make DVD with MyDVD Good Luck
