I work in a computer recycling business and I often take apart Pentium 3s or Socket 478 PCs all with much more dust than seen in these pictures 🙁

hehehe,
Favorite problem I have seen are ones where they have roach infestations. Roaches LOVE PSUs, they are nice and warm, and the just cuddle up and die in there, restricting airflow and destroying the PSU.

I find that print shops have the worst pc's. All the humidity needed for the print presses and all the paper dust and whatnot, they get absolutely terrible! Clean them regularly or they start burning up components.

Worst I ever saw was a mouse with it's head nearly severed by a cpu fan, that was....messy. Then I had one case where I found the shriveled up tip of an Asians finger, no joke, it was rather disturbing.

Dude 😵 now that is bad to find body parts. a new meaning to the phrase blood, sweat, and tears.

Another vote for pantyhose as a filter. Its far thinner than those foam filters. It stretches over a fan easy and its easy to dust out by just pulling it and pinging it against the fan.

However, just keeping your room dusted and vacuuming once or twice a month can negate most of the trouble.

I can judge the state of a persons home when they bring me their computer to service. It never fails. Dirty PC = Dirty home.

Man I should take a photograph on our production line PC sometimes 😀 or better yet the mountain of dust when a PC somewhere in it :)

The worst I have ever seen was while I was deployed in 2003. A critical system from one of the units I supported had a failure and we back-hauled the computer to a support desk location. While stocking up on supplies to head back out, the techs cracked the case and poured a small coffee can full of dust and sand from it.

Needless to say, the fine sandblasting did little good and the only thing that survived were the HDDs and case. The rest had to be gutted and tossed for recycling.
