[SOLVED] Installing new CPU, getting an "unsupported CPU" message.

My motherboard is an alvorix rs880 uatx, and my new CPU is an AMD Phenom II X4 965. If it matters, my old CPU was an AMD Athlon II X2 250.

After installing the new CPU, I got an error message that said my CPU is unsupported. I thought this could be fixed with just a BIOS update, but after reinstalling my old CPU and installing the most recent BIOS version and then reinstalling the new CPU, the problem persists.

I've checked, and HPs website for my motherboard lists my new CPU as compatible.

Both 965 exceed the maximum supported power of the board. 95W.

There is a 140W and a 125W version of that CPU.

Best you could consider would be the 95W 955 or one of the two 95W 945. Be cautioned, there are 125W versions of both those chips.

Though in your position I would be looking at doing everything I could to get off of the AM3 platform.
