if you have a limited budget, the z97-a is almost the same without the red/black theme and a few features. If you are willing to spend the extra money, than the hero is a great board.

People tend to go a bit overboard on motherboards IMHO. Just remember that a motherboard has basically no impact on performance... it's all about features. Yes, technically OCing motherboards have certain features which *might* make a slightly higher OC possible, but honestly that's probably only relevant for de-lidders with extreme cooling solutions.

So performance is a wash...

After that, just look at the features. Does the Hero have features that you want that cheaper boards don't? Are those features worth the price difference to you? Usually for me the answer is "no". I'd almost always prefer to get things like a nicer display, keyboard, mouse, headset... things that I actually use and interact with, rather than spending up on a motherboard, but maybe you have particular priorities which benefit from a higher end mobo?
