Not to burst your bubble, but I really don't think Linux will take over Windows to become the primary OS, even though it is free. Yes, there are signs that it will become a much larger player than it is now, but it'll still very far from replacing Windows.

I don't like M$ either, but I really applaud them for setting an industry standard for operating system, so I don't have to learn how to use Windows, Linux, and OS.X at the same time. It'll be another 20 years before Linux can potentially take over the market, but I really don't think it will.

Do people still say things like that in 2008?
Both hilarious and sad.

I find it funny how people defend or attack a company like it was your own mother or worst enemy..........well its just sad really.

People the main goal of every lucrative company is to earn money, so I may suggest you do the same by buying the best option at the moment instead of talking pure and simple ****,coz the Intel's and the AMD's are never going away they just die to be born again....its a cycle.

What you saying about my company?

lol these companys take our money and rip us off, give us cr@p products and people still remain... "loyal"?

The only way your theory works is if intel halted all research and development at this time as well. They may not release new technologies to the market due to a lull in competition and milk what they can from whats out, but I assure you if AMD throws anything threatening onto the market, intel will have something. Not to say that whatever AMD has brewing will be worse than whatever intel has in the works, AMD very well may produce something better than intels latest and greatest, but to assume with intel being so ahead of the game at this point that AMD will release something that will take intel a significant amount of time to answer to, is just plain dumb.

the 5000 Black edition is an amazing value. not to mention the fact that to overlcock it you don't have to shorten the life of your other parts (mobo-ram) to overclock the cpu, and unless you superclcock it, won't shorten the life of your be either... that's an amazing chip, it really is. 😛
and the 3870 just dropped to 210 thanks to gigabyte and it's awesome marketing strategies. 😛

and i don't find it funny how people defend or attack companies... when there are only 2 involved... i will defend the smaller one in a big way because there is a big part of our economy and our 'hobby' and businesses that depend on amd staying afloat... can you immagine if a 2.0ghz dual core proc cost 500 dollars? think about it... i'll support the competition... that's final. and if you don't support the competition, you have no foresight whatsoever... and i'm sorry for your children, and possibly you as well depending how it impacts us.

Or you can send both companies a message and refuse to by crappy products from either one. I bought AMD when Intel had netburst out, and now I would by Intel because K10 is crap.

Buying crappy products doesn't support competition. If AMD continues to make crappy products and people continue to buy them they'll just make more crappy products.

Yeah its amazing how far ahead Intel is. Especially when you consider all the Anti-trust suits against Intel, the copyright infringement cases they are paying out (can anyone say transmetta? Yeah their back in business with the huge payout from Intel) and now the University of Wisconsin is also suing for copyright infringement. Wow, amazing how easy it is to win when you cheat. Just like the New England Patriots, cheating will eventually catch up to you and all respect will be lost. Everyone just better hope AMD can hang on, otherwise we all lose.

MrsBytch, tell me, how hard was it to build your Intel rig, knowing you are supporting such an evil and heinous organization?

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and support AMD? You know, an FX-74 sale would really please AMD at this point. 😗

 Yea we all know Bytch has an AMD system and just puts that Intell info in his sig so he can hang with his Intell peeps. I was thinking of changing my sig to a Skulltrail system OC to 5 Ghz. and see if anyone notices. :pt1cable:

so umm... quake wars? you ummmm awake there buddy? there was a time when direct x didn't even exist. and there are games that arn't built around dx. next...

ok it's not "crap" someone just told you it was and your subjective to advertisements and hype just like the rest of the stupid people in this country. You know, i'm sure you like fat chicks and itty bitty boobies too... right? yeah, that's what i thought. get back to me on that whole brainwash thing. I'll give you a cookie if you can tell me why there are so many more illnesses now then there were 20 years ago... your welcome.

Indeed... it's easy to win at monopoly when you've got a several grand in dough up your sleeve, or you just rob the bank when your buddy is in the toilet.

Yea I guess there is Quake Wars and... um... Prey.

Seriously, John Carmack is a big supporter of OpenGL, which is why the Doom 3 and id Tech 5 engines use OpenGL. Practically all other modern engines are DirectX. I'm not saying this is a good thing, but it is a thing.

Did someone wizz in your coffee?

Yes, crap is a subjective term when you aren't referencing feces. Prescott P4's were crap, and I bought AMD. Phenom is a steaming pile of crap, and I won't buy it. And yes, I do like titties of varying sizes.

What alot of people dont understand is during times like this with massive central banking ruling the world economy the "people" dont get poor. The money simply changes hands from the lower and middle class to the more wealthy class folks on the planet. There is in fact ALOT of money floating around. The difference is the guy that normaly makes out "ok" paying his bills is coming up short.

whats ironic about it. just because amd bought ati that now ati is amd???ive always had a intel ati set up. just cause amd own them now doesnt change anything to me

There is no need for anything past 3Ghz as -software- still mostly is uses the old P4 rateings.

For those talking about Intel looking forward to big loss....that will happen when they lose the contested EU court judgement and pay the 10% fine for all sales durring the time period (read years) covered in that case. They are also contesting 3 other suits in as many countrys.
If the EU case holds it's judgement befor the year is out expect INTC stock to drop like a brick in a fishpond.

Admittedly I dont really pay attention to the business side of hardware manufacturers and go with reviews on price performance to determine my purchases.

I am curious if anyone can weigh in on this topic given the 2 years that have unfolded since its creation, particularly the assumption intel was somehow going to take a hit. I didnt hear about it if they did.
