Intel HD 2500 vs Radeon HD 7450 question

Looking into new PC for basic home use, but also HD video editing with Sony Vegas 11. This forum has been enormously helpful in narrowing my choices.

Now deciding between:
Lenovo M82-3306 (Core i5-3570, Intel HD 2500 shared graphics, small form factor, 240w PSU)
Lenovo M92p-2992 (core i7-3770, Radeon HD 7450 1GB dedicated, tower case 280w PSU)

Not a big gamer, so that is not a concern of mine. I assume the i7 is better for what I need, but how much better? Is the performance increase worth another $150 upfront?

For editing/rendering yes the i7 is the better choice of the 2 most certainly. And the 7450 is a less then average card but surely it is better then the 2500 graphics from intel. For what you are doing I'd say it is a better option of the two to go with the i7 with the better card the power supply probably isn't amazing but if it works it works if you wanted a better card you would need to change the POS out.

If you only spend a little time rendering video, the extra cost for the i7 may not be worth it, but it will be faster with 4 extra logic cores. A discrete 7450 is better than onboard 2500 -- probably to the point where some games are actually playable -- but if gaming was a concern I'd recommend an actual gaming card.

The question you need to answer is saving time rendering video worth $150. If so, get the i7.

I do agree that if graphics were more important to you that a card bought would be the better option. Also I agree that the 3570 would do more then fine with what you are doing. Have you ever thought on building a machine rather then getting a store bought computer.

I have considered building a machine, I built a few in the past, but fell out of touch. I think I have the ability to put a kit together, but the ones I looked at brought the price a little out of my budget, factoring in OS.

What is a the best place to look for barebones or kit systems? I have glanced at tigerdirect and newegg, but don't really know where to start.

Thanks bigshootr8, as mentioned, I am looking for a home PC with video editing capabilities; with gaming of little or no importance. My budget would be around $650, including the price of Windows 7. 1TB HD min and several USB 3.0 ports. I don't overclock, so that doesn't matter as well. I saw the forum where people put together a list of their builds, but they seem to be focused on gaming machines. Which is fine, just not what I am after. Is there a more appropriate forum to post my wish list and budget? Again, thank you for your help.
