I was wondering which is better for general daily use.

The i5 480M is clocked higher at 2.66GHz however the i5 2410M is based on second generation i5 Sandy Bridge architecture but is clocked lower at 2.3GHz.

Notebookcheck.net's benchmarks say the 2410M is marginally better by about 1%. How can that be? the 480M clearly has a clock advantage toward the slower 2410M.

Please give and expert answer.

Thanks,
Kevin

From what I know the i5 2410m runs alot cooler then the i5 480m, better generation is always the way to go.

As a general rule the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors outperform the 1st generation Intel Core processors by about 15%. In the case of the Intel Core i5-2410M vs. Intel Core i5-480M the performance difference should bring the Intel Core i5-2410M up to the level of the Intel Core i5-480M in a non-turbo mode performance. In turbo mode the Intel Core i5-2410M would outperform the Intel Core i5-480M. You can match them up here http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=52224,52952,.

Where were you when I had intel questions lol, You know what you are talking about!

@OP listen to this guy.

Because Pentium 4 was WAY better than Pentium 3 😛

But yes in that case I would agree that the new i5-2410m is probably more efficient and the way to go; you can always just walk into an store and test them there and see which one feels more responsive to you. Even if the speed of the i5-2410m seems slower, maybe the higher memory bandwidth compensates.
