Aww... I was hoping the 950 would get a price cut with the intro of the 970.

Is it me or is the 970 weird that it has 6 cores, when they came out with a 975 that was quad core.

[citation][nom]sandypants[/nom]With those cuts, I'm probably never going to get a quad core for my LGA 775.[/citation]

i quit on waiting for a price cut on those... getting an amd setup is just as much as getting a q9650, ima wait a little longer, and upgrade when usb 3.0 is all out

I've been watching the C2Q9s waiting for a price drop. Their prices have been flat for over a year now and I wonder what's supporting them. Now I can get an i7 for cheaper? That's good but still disappointing because I'd really prefer the drop-in upgrade.

if you're still holding on your 775 mobo and waiting for a greatly priced c2q... give it up already, your update path lies on either 1366 or 1156... or go amd altogether

I still can't complain on my c2q q6600 anyways... but I'm really considering to go amd on my next computer

Intel are feeeling the pinch put on by AMD in value market!
Good for new builds on intel route though, nice for prices to drop.

Personally, I build mostly AMD systems for customers, allows for a better balanced build. I do use Intel but only High End stuff for Performance users that want specific things from their machines.

Those waiting for c2q prices to fall, should have seen the deal on the wall from the offset, prices only fall on current tech, older tech always hits a wall and goes no lower, look at Nvidia 2xxx cards, sell for silly expensive money still

[citation][nom]unknown_13[/nom]I just don't understand why are they releasing new Pentiums for LGA775, which is supposed to be a dead socket?[/citation]

To clear out old (cheap) mobos and offer an alternative to AMD's rule over the ultra-thrifty; there are still people who don't understand specs and will walk into a store see 3.06 GHZ next to the word 'intel' for $449 and buy. Hopefully AM3 will see some better procs, and soon.

How many people complaining about Core2 prices not dropping bought their current motherboard and processor AFTER Intel released the Core i7 line, in order to pick up some good deals on the old tech? If you bought your LGA-775 AFTER the release of the Core i7s, that was just foolish, you knew Intel was moving on.

LGA-775 had a long life (5+ years), but its time to move on. It's just what Intel does, obsolete your old motherboard which each new release. One might think you'd be used to it by now.

The E6600 has 4 mb's of L2 cache. Not the 2 as quoted. Your E5200 through E5500 has only 2 which is correct. The E5200 are mad overclockers and can easily top 3.0 GHz with only minor BIOS changes.

[citation][nom]Wolfram23[/nom]I hope the 870 gets even cheaper in a couple years, if I need to upgrade from my i5 750 that'll be great.[/citation]
In a 'couple years' the 870 will most likely be EOL and unavailable, except for possibly eBay. In any case it's not that much of an upgrade, especially not in that time frame.

You're wrong. The Pentium (Penryn) line all has 2 MB L2 cache.

The only two on that list that even matter are the E6600 and i5 760. The new 970 is confusing as Hell. It's priced too close to the EE model (probably should sell for $750), and the number (970) makes no sense at all. Intel is getting more and more cryptic with their model numbers, and less and less sensible.
