Holy sh!t this thread is getting big. I bet this will reach 1000 posts by may or sooner. I also bet that dvdPiddy will get to devil's advocate poster status (32,000+ posts) within next year lol.

I've read a few of the posts on this. I didn't know that everyone was hardcore AMD or Intel. Hopefully the Turion X2 will be released soon so I can get a good comparison to the Intel Core Duo. I am also interested in the Conroe vs AMD X2s as well.

Lets look on the bright side. We all have refreshed our knowlage(at least i did).

Conroe will beat AMD. If DDR2 is so good than why pentiums that used it performed bad in stuff that actually make use of it except multitasking. I know that the chip wasn't great but still if DDR2 bandwidth makes a great difference than why can't we all see it.
DDR2 will improve AMD performance by 5%. Intel will still be having a substantial lead.

Intel's lead is not so much in performance as it is in total package. By total package I mean Intel processor, graphics, sound, chipset. AMD does not offer this. Intel owns 80% of the video market now. The 20% being occupied by Nvidia and ATI. The commercial market is where the money is anyway which most enterprises are Intel only.

I wasn't aware that intel owned 80% of the video market. Maybe they just don't talk about that since their margins are so small for integrated graphics.

Wondering if the integrated graphics can handle Vista when it comes out.

Last I saw, no. Only the very newest IGPs can handle vista. A lot of laptop owners are fairly upset about that.
No, Intel is building an integrated solution specificially for Vista with all the bells and wistles and goodies it needs. Vista doesn't really tax the GPU itself, it just needs SM3.0, Directx9 etcetera.

no seriously hes the best he got me cygwin and i am learning programs now its cool pretty soon i'll know alot (and use this knowledge to take over the world) <laughing maniacly> mwuhuhuhu hahahaha mwuhuhuhuhu hahahaha

because the Pentium 4 marchitecture was a complete failure. It sucks in everywhere and is not scalable.

Do you have any proofs on your FUD??

I've seen Anand's updated review of Conroe and all I can say is that Conroe is 20% better at single tasks against the FX.
Once you put multitasking on the table, Conroe's advantage of 20% goes down to 10-15%. This makes me believe that the chip is not scalable at multiple threads since its 4MB of shared L2 cache is good for one thread, once you fill that cache with 2+ threads, Conre's performance starts to degrade (not the case with the K8 architecture).

Anyhow, NGMA it's still way better than Intel's crappy, shitty and awful netburst architecture.

Yeah, i said DUR.

Netburst is scalable, but NOT with 90nm. If we had 65nm Netburst chips released instead of stupid Prescott...Intel would've never lost face.

Not so much. Netburst was a bad design from the start and never had any real chance of success in the long run.

Meh, Netburst can do well at uber high clock speeds.
All the best superpi times are on prescotts :O
