Hello All, a good friend of mine has had an Xbox 360 Slim for around a year and a few days ago he told me that his account had mysteriously disappeared on him. Today I had him bring it to me and I found that the internal storage unit on it says "Unformatted" with no option other than formatting it. I've never had this happen before on any of my consoles, his has just turned 12 years old today with a manufacturing date of 10-22-2012.

For now I've left it alone with the hopes of finding a fix to get his data back.

Is there anything that I can really do about it? It's onboard so its not like I can just take it out and plug it into my PC like a normal hard drive.
Some advice would be appreciated.

Xbox 360 uses a file system called FATX. It is not recognised when connected to a computer. You will need to remove the hard drive from the console and connect it to a pc, use a specific program to enable the computer to run recovery software to see if any data is recoverable.

Noted, but how do I do that with the memory unit integrated on the mainboard?
