Has anyone experienced this type of problem with XP Home?
I can dial up and connect to the Internet, although no pages can be viewed with “The page cannot be displayed” error. Have virus scanned and run ad-aware, also ad-aware will not update when connected?
Have checked all settings with Internet options set to always dial my default connection ticked.
I then updated to SP2, still no go?
Thanks of any help on this, Jon

This could be a few things:
1. Check and make sure there is no proxy entered in IE. Tools>Internet Options>connections>lan settings>proxy (make sure it is unchecked)
2. Can you ping out? try this: start>run>cmd>ping 206.13.28.12 (this is a dns controller I always ping to see if there is an internet connection)
If it responds you have internet but there is a dns problem.

There are probably more things to try and if I think of em I'll let u know. It has been awhile since I used dialup last so I can't remember all the little odds and ends.

My Mom's computer was doing this yesterday. I fixed it by running Spybot S&D and rebooting. After that I was able to view web pages. Go to Windows update and get the critical update for IE SP2. That's how I fixed it. Good Luck.

Sounds like a setup problem, if you cant get it running call your isp and get technical assistance they should be able to guide you through a fix once you describe the error to them...
