Internet stability

I'm not sure if this is the right place and I couldn't find anything related to my problem and the threads I did find didn't help. So my problem is that my internet occasionally drops and by occasionally it could be every 5 minutes or every 5 hours the only reliable thing is that is will happen it's just a matter of when.

I have New Wave for a ISP which was formerly Avenue broadband and before that Charter. I should be getting 15MB down and 1.5MB up, generally when I do a speed test I get about that and sometimes I don't. Generally when I play a game I get between 70-90MS for a ping whether its WoW or LoL, but occasionally it spikes up to 100-200ms which is obnoxious and when this happen and I do a speed test I normally see a 1-5MB download and between .5-1.5 up, I can give speedtest results if that would help too. So when I am playing my game and streaming or watching somebody stream pretty solidly every 15-30 minutes my game will stop moving and the stream will freeze then poof disconnect from the game and the stream crashes to where I have to reload the web page. But 95% of the time I can immediately reconnect and then I know it's just a matter of time until it happens again. Someone suggested in another thread somewhat relating to my problem to post a tracert going to google and this is what mine returns as.

You didn't say what you have for a connection setup , modem , router , wireless . ethernet cable. How do you have your internet connected in your home.
Sometimes it's the ISP that's causing the problem as they are concerned about getting you service and charging you for it but really don't care about the quality of service and try to deflect the blame away from them.

I'm not a big IT guru but I'll give as much as I can, I'm hooked up through a ethernet cable from the modem which is a Arris model-TM602G, which also runs cables to a D-Link switch model Des1024D using a Tandy power switch system. Hopefully this helps, it has me confused like no other as my father was the one who set up the system.

EDIT: I forgot to add a Cisco Linksys E2500 wireless router. All together there is a maximum of 6 computers that could possibly be connected at once, but generally only averaging 3 at one time.

EDIT2: After doing some more research I switched the ethernet cable from the switch to the E2500 wireless router I stated in my first edit to see if that would make any difference.
