[citation][nom]blazorthon[/nom]The iPhone was not the first smart phone on the market. It was the first from Apple that was sold en mass to general consumers. Also, there were many phones that had a smart phone form factor (both dumb and pre-iPhone smart phones had several models like that). Apple wasn't even the best, they were simply the first throw at the general populace instead of primarily professional customers. I'm not trying to down-play Apple's success, but seriously, you should stop spreading lies.[/citation]
ok...lies?...show me a smartphone that was available with a touch screen and a high def screen before the iphone was launched?...please do...wait, there weren't any...anything available was crap and had no more than 2 inches or less of color display that was worthless

There were dozens of phones with similar form factors to modern smart phones and screen sizes as well as with touch screens... I guess some people just aren't old enough to remember.

You aren't very bright, are you... "The Walking Dead" has nothing to do with the iPhone 5. Or are you getting a commission for sharing the link?

[citation][nom]maquis[/nom]I guess I'm thankful I got my preorder in Friday morning with Verizon. This will be my first iPhone - I have had an Android (Droid X) for two years, and I am ready for a change. I know my Droid is "old", but I have app problems CONSTANTLY. Either my email quits syncing, camera app crashes, etc. No "iSheep" fanboy crap, I happen to like the look, and it has the features that matter to me.[/citation]
Strange - on my Galaxy Nexus (Android 4.1, previously 4.0), I've never had those issues. Perhaps it's your older customized version of Android?

I'm glad at least one of us knows my computer better than I do...I'm not 18 anymore...just sayin'.

You may want to verify your firewall settings...just say'n.

Imagine a phone that won't let you surf the web and attend to your calls at the same time. Imagine iCrap's iPhone 5. It really should be called the-for-morons smart phone.

"...The iPhone 5 can't make calls and connect to the Internet at the same time over LTE, but she did say people can talk and use the Internet if connected over Wi-Fi."

Lovely technology, the iCrap way.

"...over LTE" Why would I need to do that over LTE if I can do it over 3G? Oh wait, I don't look at porn...but those that do are probably too smart to be using iPhones anyways so what's the problem?

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]Yes it is valid because in order to remove it you have to root your phone and the blame falls squarely on Android itself.[/citation]
iOS - closed OS, no modifications allowed either by carriers or by consumers = all phones look/feel the same (like everyone driving the same car or going to the same brothel);
Android OS - open OS, meaning consumers can modify it any way they like, but so can the carriers, hence the core of the OS is modified by carriers; it's the carriers that choose to make their bloatware inaccessible by the usual uninstaller, not the OS, hence the need to gain root privileges in order to do it.
More choices, like it or not. You can choose to use it as is, or you can choose to start using your brain and gain root privileges for true freedom in customizing your phone. If anything, the open nature of the OS allows you to attain your goal, does not get in the way of doing that.
To make the analogy even simpler, ever watched those chopper builder shows? They all use pretty much same engines on their builds, but the final product is a result of their own choice of materials and the way of putting them together and finishing them. That's why you have a lot of different products out there instead of a monotone world.

What you like is your choice; I know I prefer variety. Quit blaming things that you don't understand.

What's the point of having LTE if you can't use it? Sure, you can still use it when you're not using the phone as a phone, but still. Why wouldn't Apple let let you use LTE while talking?

My HTC sensation can't do that either (over 3G... as it doesn't have LTE). I don't think I've ever had a smartphone that was capable to use data services during voice calls. Strange limitation indeed, but not limited to Apple.

you can depending on your network. i.e. In AT&T I can do both at the same time, because they use different frequencies to carry data and voice. other companies use the same frequency for both and that is why you can't do both at the same time.

I've never had a smart phone that couldn't use 3G or LTE while talking, hence my surprise about it.

TBH, the only disappointment I have with my 4s is its lack of support for Flash, but it's a trade-off I can live with to keep iOS' simplicity, intinutiveness, and stability. I like the 4s screen a lot. Color is great, whites don't look blue or green (as they did on the RAZR Maxx). Now, I'm not a control freak so that may affect my preferences.

This is indicative of a LOT of people fed up with Android for failing to deliver on any of its promises. People took a free Android phone as their first smart phone, because they could not afford iPhones. Now after trying to use Android and realizing how cheap the devices are and how bad the OS is, they are ready to move on to a quality device from Apple.

Glad so many of you people duped by Android's false promises have come around, and welcome to the iOS user base!

I don't think you can really generalize, though, with android devices. There's too much fragmentation and inconsistency. Very few devices dcome clean without the manufactuer's value-added (spelled b l o a t w a r e) installed. One may like touchwiz while it sickens another. Motoblur may make some sick while others find it tasty. Some, like me, don't want to be bothered. I'm simple-minded perhaps but iOS just seems easier to use. When I want complexity and (some do care about the size of the icons on their phones...I do not)... I fire up my Wintel PCs.

[citation][nom]Halcyon[/nom]I know I'm a little off but I've never needed to surf the net and be on a call at the same time on the same device.[/citation]

I use the internet while I'm on the phone a lot. I'll use it when I'm on hold, when I have to look something up while I'm on the phone, when I want to send an email while I'm on the phone, running downloads while I'm on the phone, and more. When I'm not at home and I have to do something like any of that, I usually have to use the phone's 3G/4G connection for the internet while I'm on the phone. It'd really suck to not have that capability.

@Halcyon

I know people that jumped on the Android 4G bandwagon from a 3GS. They liked it at first, but almost all of the people I know have had issues with the build quality (broken charger ports, screens breaking randomly, OLED burn-in, etc).

With Apple, you know exactly what you are getting, which is why preorders are breaking records. Apple has a winning formula, and it consistently improves on it. This new phone is a marvel of engineering, matching or besting the S3 in a smaller form factor at 400mhz less frequency.

The android users I know are indifferent to phone brands / Apple and don't get raged or troll, because they are adults. The same cant be said about the Internet, where it's a lot of trolls threatened by apple's dominance and being haters because it's "cool to hate the top dog". Don't worry though, us adults don't hold that against all Android users, and we welcome you back to the iOS world when you are ready to come back like so many others!
