Hi!
First time visitor here…
Just installed a brand new 4T Seagate Ironwolf Pro in my pc and I get rithmic “clicking” noises… (sounds a bit like electrical crackling)
Formatted it as NTFS but chkdsk does not seem to be able to analyse it…
Any idea as to what’s wrong?
I have a recording of it but I can’t see a way to upload it here….

When you first connected it did you get a little pop up box asking you to choose between an MBR or GPT partition ID for the disk; and hopefully did you choose GPT? If you open up the Disk Management app and right click on the area at the left where it say Disk 1, then select Properties and Volumes does it show that you have a GPT partition table? (My WD Red Pro makes the same clicking sounds so that may be normal for NAS class drives.)

Thanks. Yes, I chose GPT. I then proceeded to format it as NTFS. Took a while but the drive went from “RAW” to “NTFS”. So I first thought the clicking was due to the formatting. I was ably to assign it a drive letter, but things went from bad to worse. Chkdsk took a minute to recognise it as NTFS and blocked there. (C: drive took a couple of seconds to complete - I first did a chkdsk of C: as I didn’t give any parameters) Had to do a hard reset with the powerbutton. Next boot clicking started again. Copied over a small program (original Doom with mods) and that worked well. Then tried to copy a 150MB folder. Initially it went well but the transfer blocked at the last 5-10%. Again hard reboot time. All the time there was thar rhytmic clicking sound…
Last day I can return it, so I’ll probably do that now.

Ps Sorry Stonecarver but didn’t find a way to upload the .m4a soundfile to imgur (probably ‘cause it isn’t a picture…)
