is 400fsb impossible for E4300??

Im running a DFI Infinity P965-S board with E4300 and a ZEROtherm cooler, the butterfly shaped one. The system runs stable at 333 x 9, but i want to push it to 400 x 8 or even 400 x 9. Ive raised the voltage on NB, Ram, CPU and even SB. The System practically boots with anything up to 405, but anything from 350 up cant make it to windows let alone testing for stability.

my ram is OCZ ram, running ddr 2 837 atm. I want fsb 400 so i can run the ram @ 1:1

I've tried raising the cpu voltage to 1.5, ram to 2.2v but it wont boot into windows, ive even updated the BIOS to the latest version, and plug in a 4pin power to the mobo for power stability. What can i do to improve here?

Im willing to change borad to get to 400fsb, that or change to a new E8xxx cpu, but im not sure which one is not up to the job, mobo or cpu.

about 360mhz fsb is all I can do with 1.45 volt and I have the 650sli-ds4 from gigabyte, the board can go up to 490 on air, I would get an e8400 or an e6750 there both the same price and the e8400 hits 4ghz easy on air, all the 6750 can do on air is 3.8ghz if your lucky a little more
But if your mb supports the e8000 series get it!!!!!!!!

1:1 is not really a big deal for performance.
If I had to guess, your Mobo is the limiting factor.
P965 boards tended to have lower FSB walls than P35.

However, not hitting 1:1 is a very minor issue.

yeah but i want 400fsb for performance as well. and its not like its impossible, there are quite a few ppl that can get 400 or more.

you sure my P965-S will support 400fsb? its doesnt even have the option of NB strap 333.

I've hit 400fsb with my E4300, although I don't run it at that speed everyday.

I have an EVGA 680i SLI motherboard, using 4GB (4x1GB) OCZ Plantium DDR2 800. I used the standard retail heatsink/fan and hit 3.2Ghz using 8x400.

I kept the machine like that for several days with no issues (although I didn't do any torture testing, I idled at about 39°-44°C and would it about 59°-61°C under full load.

With this setup, I was able to hit about 10,500 on 3dmark 06 with an EVGA 8800gts 320.

what bios version do you have

only from 360, I have to up the chipset voltage and put a box fan next to it with the side open to get up that far.
yaeh I know its ghetto
all I can say is get a e6750 because it looks like the motherboard supports it,the last update was in september of last year, a month or two after the e6750, I would'nt get an e8400 unless its from a store right down the road where you can take it back if it don't work.
but the e6750 will go all the way up to 520 fsb on air with the right motherboard. correct me if I'm wrong

It all depends on the chip. I know of a guy running it at 425fsb, 3.83ghz, but thats a very good chip. To test the maximum fsb, set the multiplier as low as possible (I think 6 is the lowest) and then keep raising the fsb till to you reach the maximum. You reach a maximum fsb befor eyou reach the max OC speed. This will be the top fsb, not chip speed. However, the max chip speed will likely be less that 9xFSBmax.

I also hit 3.2ghz with a Pentium E2160 with 8x400 with an Asus 650i and 1x2gb of some cheap ddr2 800.

yeah i know it only supports 1066/800, but plenty of ppl have got over 400, so thats not really an issue, i rekon its more of the CPU.

i just did the latest bios update from dfi website with winflash + vista 32bit, which didnt end too well. it all patched properly but couldnt restart my pc, so i had to manually shut the pc down. And when i rebooted, system didnt respond, no signal. I had to reset the BIOS, but i think its running the latest bios version now. I set all the options back and now running 333 x 9 again.

E6750 sounds pretty good to me, but its not like i can return the cpu if it doesnt pass 400, i'd rather stick to what i have now, and try new ways of maxxing it out to 400. And besides prices are gonna drop in Apr, i'd rather wait for a Q6600, does it oc well?

Or should i get an E2160??? i got one for my sister's pc, it runs 300 x 9 with my stock E4300 fan on stock voltage. Seems pretty OC happy to me, and cheap too.

MadCow809; it is standard procedure to have to reset your BIOS values to default after a flash update.

don't be dissapointed if you can't get to 400mhz FSB--I woudln't recommend updating the CPU until it becomes the bottleneck of your system. It is more likley that your videocard will become the issue before your CPU (resolution depending).
