Hello,

Im upgrading my old pc and wanted to know if AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 250 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail, is compatible with Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 10666C9 1333MHz TwinX Dual Channel, I assumed it was as it's am3, but I was looking at some of the phenom II quad-core's and they said ddr3 1333 supported in the description where as this cpu doesn't. Only problem is my budget is £400 and my current selection with shipping is ~£380 so I cannot afford a quad or tri core cpu :/ Many thanks.

Depends on the motherboard. If your ram and cpu fits in the slots, your good to go ! simple as that. As far as I know all Am3 boards are back compatable with Am2 cpus. Just check the board specs, that will tell you what you need to know. Also, you should be able to find boards cheaper than £400 no problem.

I meant the bundle that im getting is around £380, the mobo itself is like £72 and is ddr3 compatible, just wanted to know if this cpu will work with the ram at the optimum speed/with no hiccups. But thanks anyway.

no, you CANNOT put an am2 processor into an AM3 mobo. you can however put an AM3 CPU into an AM2+ mobo provided the BIOS supports it.

@OP yes, the ram and CPU are perfectly compatible, as long as you have a AM3 mobo to put them in, which it seems you do.
