I have a dell inspirion 5680, who's cpu is a i5-8400, I would like to know if it is compatible with an i7-9700k, and if so, how to make it work.

Go here https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04?app=drivers and type in or have it detect your pc. It will give you a list of compatible drivers and bios updates. Read the notes on the bios updates to make sure it supports the 9700k. And if your still not sure call Dell Customer support and they can help you out with figuring out the correct bios.
