Hello Everyone,

It's been quite some time since I was here :) MERRY XMAS & Happy Holidays to all !!!!

I have the following setup:

  • * Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990fx R2.0 Bios Version 2501
    * CPU: AMD FX-8350 @4.2GHz (stable)
    * GPU: MSI GTX 670 2GB Power Edition OC (stock settings)
    * Memory: 12GB Corsair Vengeance@1600MHz
    * HDD1: Seagate Barracuda 1TB@7200rpm HDD
    * HDD2: Seagate Barracuda 1TB@7200rpm HDD
    * PSU: XFX Pro 750W Black Edition (Fully Modular)
    * CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO with Cooler Master 120mm PWM fan
    * Case Fan 1: Noctua NF-S12B FLX 120mm Fan
    * Case Fan 2: Noctua NF-A14 FLX 140mm Fan
    * Case Fan 3: Noctua NF-A14 FLX 140mm Fan
    * Case Fan 4: Xigmatek 140mm Fan
    * Casing: Xigmatek Midguard-II Gaming Case
    * Monitor: Viewsonic VX2370Smh 23inch Gaming LED
    * OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I want to upgrade my graphics card to a GTX 980 Ti. Some IRL friends+online friends said that the FX-8350 will bottleneck the system & I may have to swap my current AMD mainboard+CPU for an Intel setup.

Therefore, I just wanted to ask if anyone else is using a setup similar to mine but with a GTX 980 Ti & if indeed the FX-8350 caused a bottleneck on their systems.

NOTE: I want to get an NVIDIA card that can run ANYTHING like butter at maxed out/ultra settings @ 1080p @ 144Hz. I'm not planning on going over 1080p.

Thank you in advance....

I've never personally owned the FX-8350, but based on every forum post I've ever read, and every performance review I've ever watched, the GTX 980 Ti will be bottle-necked by your CPU. What country do you live in and what's your total upgrade budget? If I were in your position, I would sell your motherboard + CPU, and GPU, to raise money for new Intel CPU + MB. The article excerpt below might help explain the AMD CPU bottleneck.

Yes probably in most modern cpu intensive games however a bottleneck is not the end of the world you should still perform pretty well in most games. To rcald the fx 8350 has 4 physical cores and 4 logical cores somewhat similar to a hyperthreaded intel cpu I dont really think the 8350 should be called an 8 core cpu either, as it does not have 8 separate cpu cores.
