is hercules dead?

After hearing complaints about how hot the ATI's can get with their aluminum heatsinks, I decided that I wanted a Hercules Radeon 9700 because they build theirs with copper heatsinks. But alas, I can't find one anywhere, anywhere at all, not even Newegg. Anybody know where to find these mythical cards? Or perhaps Hercules discontinued this line and I didn't hear about it?

Hercules only makes the R9800 series currently. R9700 is old stock.

And despite not being the reason for your difficulties in finding an R9700Pro, yes indeed Hercules is leaving the VideCard market, because ATI's not happy with the way Hercules refines and alters their design. They made a statement a week ago.

However the reason you can't find R9700Pros, is because they haven't been current in quite some time, and when shelves were depleated they were refilled with R9800s not R9700s.

Unfortunately yes, Hercules (well, the video cards division) is dead! Hercules does not make anymore video cards and LCD monitors. I was very surprised myself to find that. I got one of the very few remaining Hercules 9800 Pro's, even if I had to pay a little extra compared to the Sapphire (yeah, I like the blue led and the copper heatsinks , even if they don't help performance )

I don't have the link to the press release, but I think you can find it at Guillemot's site, along with the invoked reasons for this.
