i've been reading alot about the core i5 and it seems that even the cheapest i5 750 can keep up with the core i7 920 and in some cases beat it. i don't know about you guys but i am feeling like intel screwed everybody that bought the core i7 cpu. at the time(when released) i paid 300+ for the i7 plus 300 for a x58 board plus another 180 or so on tripple channel memory(6GB @1600Mhz) now(a year later) a $200 cpu can keep up and sometimes surpase my i7 on cheaper components, whys is that? like i said i am feeling alittle screwed by intel, anyone else feeling the same way?

$360 AUD as of today for an i7 920... And at today's exchange, your $199 would be $232 and a bit AUD, plus our 10% GST...

So yes, on some items we get shafted. On others we do better than the US. Do we like it? (Are you daft?) No, but that is what it is. Poor Kiwi's get hit even worse.

Well even the Kiwi's have their trade-offs. Kiwi venison is even better than 'roo, Nelson bay bluff oysters are some of the best in the world, their green-lipped mussels are to die for (if you like mussels), they have some truly world class wines, and their cheeses... NZ is a foodie's paradise.

Wonder what their laws are these days for parallel importing?

Dont forget the juicy lamb immmmmmmmmmmm lammmmmmmmb 😍

as a kiwi i understand about the prices but im living in israel at the mo and its even worst, i pay $900-$1000 us for a $500-$600 doller card from the states
i payed about $1200 for my 24" dell monitor
i payed about a $1000-1100 for my log-z5500 speakers, so most things i pay 50%-70% more
so u guys that pay a little more I LAUGH AT YOU AND SPIT IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION :kaola: .................. rrr not really :) but stop whining

anyway ... ferny12345623 .... just buy amd nexted time if you feel intel is screwing you.

My workplace bought me a machine that has a Xeon W3520 (i7\Nehalem @2.67ghz) with 8 gigs of RAM and dual 10,000 RPM hard drives in RAID 0.

I have no idea why I have such a powerful machine, as I just edit work orders, manipulate AD, and remote into people computers all day long, but I still think it is pretty cool. It's a Dell Precision T3500.

Yep - it's not Intel with the 'rubber roadmaps' 😀.

Whenever I see complaints about Intel's sockets, CPUs etc. I just recall the QuadFX 'solution' before AMD actually had a quad-core :). Anybody who purchased one of those really got the screws put to them...

i got my 920 for like $230 cause of bing cashback =]

my total rig cost about $1150 ... which isn't that bad.

Either way, i still have bragging rights to my friends that i have an i7 =D They still on C2D 😛

And the saddest thing is that he doesn't seem to realize that its a 32nm chip while his is 45nm and as well a newer stepping that can easily introduce more efficient core logic and better performance.....

^Agree,| OP, you need to understand, computer technology advances at crazy speed, so if you buy something high-end today, tomorrow there will be something better and for cheaper :) Its how it works and you need to just accept it, Intel isn't screwing anyone, they are just a chip maker trying to make good busniss and do what every other private busniss does, compete and make the better product then its competition and for cheaper.

Wow t just flat out amazing in my opinion. Mainly because the price on the i5 they are selling is only 159.99... Plus I bought my Intel Core i7 920 from Micro Center for 199.99, so what amazes me and really makes me confused is that I can't imagine how they are able to sell these CPU's show CHEAP...

Right here's the link for the Intel core i7 920 for 199.99 from Micro Center

Heres another link from Micro Center, their selling the i7 860 for 229.99
