[SOLVED] Is my cpu bottlenecking the gpu ?

Hi guys , i just have a little question
i just buy the Zotac 1060 6gb mini , and installed it with my I7-870 cpu ,
is there any bottleneck ? ,
because when i play some modern games on compatitve settings it's dropping and i feel it's laggy

What is your budget?
I'd say either a 2600 or 3600 with a B450 Tomahawk motherboard and this memory, depending on what you can afford. 3600 should be able to handle anything up to a 2080 Ti at 1440p, or 2080 Super at 1080p.

Get the 1600AF (which is basically just a 2600 but cheaper), a Gigabyte B450 DS3H (But I still suggest a Tomahawk if your budget is flexible by about $30), and the same memory I suggested above.

No. The corsair ram is 3200Mhz, and has pretty bad timings for 3200Mhz. The G.Skill ram is 3600Mhz, with some good timings for that frequency.

Programs are designed to use the processor. The processor is designed to be used as hard as it can be. The only thing you can do to take the load off of the CPU is stop playing games. Otherwise just save up as quick as you can.

Fortnite is one of those games where ram speed matters alot, i tested my i7-875k (same gen cpu, also exactly same specs, only difference is you can unlock multiplier for more than 22 on this) overclocked and without with different gpu:s from 670 to 980ti/1070.

If you run i7-870 on stock speed 2.9ghz on all cores you will bottleneck even Gtx 780ti / 780 / 970. However getting it around 3.5ghz and the bottleneck is nearly gone. If you go beyond that you need better than stock cooler, 4.2ghz and you wont even bottleneck a 1060gb. I have tested this on multiple games.

EDIT: i run fortnite on low settings 1080p with 125-275fps (average around 200) with i7-875k and 980ti and its more than enough for competitive gaming. Fortnite gives crazy gains with ram speed, from 1333mhz to 2250mhz i get around 30% more fps with same cpu clock speeds.

i5-6500 / i5-7400 results with i7-875k.

EDIT: overclocked obviously, with stock 1060 gets bottlenecked hard.

Ive done personal testing with multiple benchmarks, can do those again next weekend not on my main pc atm. I meant overclocked i7-875k compared to stock i5-6500 / i5-7400, sorry for confusing.

We can compare benchmarks like passmark: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-870-vs-Intel-i5-6500/832vs2599

In stock there is 35% difference but i got 7100-7300 on that test with 4.1-4.25ghz on i7-875k. More usual oc 4.0ghz should land you 7000 points. I also did cinebench , cpu-z test and others.
