Unboxed brand new motherboard as I am getting ready to build my new machine and noticed this. I don't do this very frequently but but I I am thinking this is damaged to the point I shouldn't go forward.

Do you guys agree that I need to RMA it? Bought it from NewEgg

Newegg is giving me a runaround :-(

It hasn't been 30 days since I bought it. I initiated a Return/Refund request but it was changed to Return/Replacement request for no reason. I was planning to build my PC during the holidays and if I wait for the replacement, it will be another week or two before I get a new one from NewEgg. Chatting with customer rep is useless. After having to wait an hour on the chat, all they can do is submit a "Request" to change it back to Return/Refund. Tried calling earlier and had them scheduled to call me back in about an hour. Well, that was two hours a go. I am regretting not sticking with Amazon Prime.

The socket looks completely mangled. How could it be this bad? I suggest RMA, if not, report it to the inspectors, they will file a lawsuit and yeah. Just ask for a replacement or a refund, and do not test the motherboard because a possible short will happen. Unfortunately you were unlucky and were probably sold a dead board that happened to be broken by the previous owner or something else.

You won't get a burned up CPU and or motherboard replaced under warranty. Did you try to plug the CPU using the wrong orientation?

There is usually a factory burn-in period, but not a burn-up period 🙂)). Looks like something or somebody got a hold of it first. Who did you purchase the motherboard from?
NewEgg. They were initially giving me a runaround and insisting that I must get it replaced from them instead of return. I cannot wait since I planned to build during the holidays. I finally got them to change the "Replacement" to "Refund" on my RMA request.

I went and bought MSI MPG Z790 EDGE from Best Buy yesterday.

Yeah, there should have ben a plastic cover over the socket to remove first.
If it was like that underneath then it either left the factory that way or was messed with.

Anyway, since you have another on order already not much left to say here.
Hope you can get things sorted with Newegg & good luck on the new build =)

The plastic shield was there but it was loose. I know its supposed to pop out as you close it the lid after putting the processor in. I didn't even get to open the CPU box. As I opened the door / hinge, the black plastic shield cam out already.

Similar problem with Asus Re x670 board. For more than 20 years I have been doing business with Asus. Seems they now just try to kick the can down the road. Won't go into details. I said the hell with this and returned the MB to Amazon for a full refund. bought a Gigabyte x870 gaming wifi6. Also have been a Gigabyte fanboy about the same length of time as Asus. Too old for this stuff.
